So I picked up my new 2017 taco last week from the dealer. I'm gonna give it its first full detail this weekend. From clay to seal... Soup to nuts.

Question for you all. This looks like DA marrying to me. Do you all agree?

Plan is to use my Portal Cable DA with some Megs Ultimate Polish with a finish pad to correct this. Of course, will be clay barring before then following the Polish up with a synthetic sealant and yellow carnuba wax.

Are you talking about the light swirl marks? If so, that could just be from their car wash brushes and/or poor quality drying cloths.
I use Griots perfecting and finishing sealant all in one step but what you are using should work fine.

I only use the 2 bucket wash method and never dry by hand to help avoid that but they are inevitable.

Yup. This will be the 1st time I wash it. But I also use the 2 bucket method.

I had this on my truck as well from the dealership. These swirls eventually go away after a few car washes and some wax. Drove me nuts at the time.

I didn't know about Griots at the time.

    BTW what is DA marring?

DA marring is when you introduce tiny imperfections/scratches in the clear coat from using a dirty pad with a DA polisher. It's also referred to as micro marring. This looks that to me but I'm no expert. It could also be minor swirls from poor wash technique.

I've done a mod or two
Just from poor wash technique, if you've never washed it it is safe to say the only wash it ever got was the quick brush down the dealers do to keep lot lingerers from getting too grotty. Dealers don't give a rats ass about cleaning technique, whatever keeps them looking more shiny than dusty and doesn't cost much in labor or materials will be used. Safe to say a DA has never touched it if you haven't done it yourself.

Many times on the lot, a worker just goes out with a pressure washer, rinses off the vehicles and dries them with a towel to look better for a couple of days. No telling how many times it was washed that way. After you're done detailing you shouldn't have to worry about them for quite some time...

Love walking through the showroom at the dealer and seeing new vehicles full of swirls. Saw one the managers there using a California Duster on the cars. o_O

Yup, spot on. And your plan is what I've used to remove swirls, and it works great.

Cool guys. I guess it doesn't really matter how the marring/swirls got there since it wasn't something I did. I was just curious to know if this could be DA marring.

At any rate, the cure should be the same. I plan on working on it tomorrow and Sunday. Will post up some photos. I started becoming more interested in washing/detailing my own cars about 8 years ago. I haven't taken any of my cars since to anyone to wash since then. I actually find the process quite enjoying. It's some nice alone time outside.

Nothing wrong with a California duster if it's waxed and/or sealed and is only dust. New ones do leave a lot w of paraffin wax streaks tho.

I feel the same way about washing and doing accessory/mod improvements. I've learned a ton of things on this forum. Car washing has become something I look forward to.

    I've become my Dad...:anonymous:

Haha. Funny story. Last 2 cars I owned before the Taco was a Mini Cooper and Juke Nismo RS. I washed them every 2 weeks just about. Also did routine schedule of seal, wax, etc.

My old neighbor had a lambo, a porsche, and his daily was a Tesla. All no more than a year old from each other. He nevered washed his own cars. Took them to the hand wash place.

I always felt like I was spending all this time "polishing my turds" whenever I'd see him leave in one of his rides. LOL

The ironing is that I own my home and he was renting the home.

My dad has a 2007 tacoma, he's retired and stays home 90% of the time. He'll drive down to the beach 5 min away and take our dog. Even if his truck doesn't leave the garage in a week he still has to wash and wax it! I tried telling him just if thats the case just use a quick detailer. I even bought him V07 too haha.. he's just stuck in his ways lol.. gave me good habits on keeping my truck and the gf's black crv looking brand new all the time tho.

Looks like every day average swirls to me.

    This is marring:
    639CCFCE-7316-4458-8AA2-3C351A63B7AC.jpg

And just to play semantics. If the paint damage is caused by machine its typically referred to as holograming. Marring can be done by hand or machine but hollograming is only done by machine.

The above picture is marring by hand. Bless their heart.

Hologramming by machine is typically more aggressive. Its not itty bitty swirls like your photo.
