I did the same thing with a $35 Tractor Supply 4' x' 6' horse stall mat that was on sale. Heavy as infernal shit but it ain't going anywhere and it'd take 10 minutes for someone to steal if they were dumb enough to steal it anyway. I installed the flat-side up but might flip it around to get some more grip back there since I haven't slept on it at all yet like I thought I might.

Seriously, that's a beautiful but sad picture.

I replaced the stock stereo over the weekend so that I could get some connectivity in this truck. Went with a double DIN and a backup camera. I have a canopy and can't see sh*t behind me so I really wanted the camera. I was going to do the tailgate handle thing, but it didn't seem like there were really any great options that didn't cost more than it was worth to me. So I ended up with a license plate camera from Amazon, and I wired it to a switch as well as the reverse light so that I can see my boat trailer while driving down the road. Anyways, I think it all turned out pretty good.

    2.jpg

There is a diode under the heat shrink here to keep it from back powering the reverse lights when powered from the switch.

    4.jpg

    20180109_111844.jpg

I just stabbed a hole in here and ran it into the cab. I'll probably put some Aquaseal around this eventually, but I don't see it sucking water uphill through a tiny hole so I think it's good for now.

    3.jpg

I originally got the Maestro/iDatalink harness for this so that I could get the OBD2 readouts, but there literally was not enough room for all of that wiring to fit in here. I felt like I was going to break something trying to force it in there so I sent it back to Crutchfield and got a simpler harness that just retained my steering wheel controls.

    5.jpg

    The switch.

    7.jpg

Anyways, it's nice to have Bluetooth and USB hookups and all of that. I can also watch Caribbean tarpon vids while sitting in rainy Seattle traffic which is sweet. Next is ditch lights, then Dakars.

For those that did not know you cannot put HIDs in a reflector housing (like the 1st/2nd gen Tacoma) without throwing significant light into the air, known as scatter which is caused by using the wrong bulb in an incompatible reflector. This scatter blinds oncoming drivers and wastes light that could be used to illuminate the road. With less light projected to the road this is actually a downgrade, despite the color and glare hitting street signs making you think otherwise.

This is the part that he is talking about, but I fixed dim headlights with led bulbs and 2 185w 15,000lm spotlights.

Replaced the starter..... at 75,000 miles. A little disappointed with that and it decided to "go'' while the truck was in the dirt floor shed. It looked like it was the solenoid contacts but I didn't want to dick around finding them and a NAPA 3yr rebuit was only $111.
My hillbilly towing method (to my heated shop).

    It worked quite well.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try that out next time. So far no issues and no maintenance lights so I think everything is all good now.
