Hello TW. I'm looking for a new suspension for my first gen. I'm hoping to get about 2-4 inches of lift from it. I don't want to get a diff drop unless it's cheap/ or I absolutely need it. My truck drives really rough currently (worn shocks) so I was wondering what would be a decent set up. Shocks and leaf springs. I don't want nothing too expensive. I dont do heavy off roading, just the occasional light trail. Thanks

    What is your budget?

Least expensive but will give you the performance is to go with Bilstein 5100's front and rear, OME coils and an AAL in the rear.

We don't sell anything for the 1st Gen but Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road can take care of you!

Awesome thanks guys. I'm not sure about the budget just because I'm not sure how much it will cost to begin with. Whats the price tag of that? With going with a setup like that, will I still be able to get the lift I want?

What about leaf springs? Shouldn't I replace the entire set since I'm doing everything else anyways. Truck has 370k on it.

I'd recommend OME Dakars, they aren't very expensive compared to many other leaf springs and they're super popular around here. I just put a set on my truck last weekend and they ride great. If you want a nice setup for the front, I'd go with OME coils and either 5100 shocks set at 0" or OME Nitrochargers. A diff drop isn't a bad idea on these first gens, and they're pretty cheap (I think I bought mine for like $30).

If the 5100's runny bad then what would be a better option for not having my front end float?

OME Nitrochargers are great. I don't have personal experience with the 5100's but most people on here love them as well. I'd consider the Nitrochargers a slightly nicer option but they're also more expensive and either would work great.

I've heard bad things about using a spacer.

Or you set the Bilsteins at the lowest setting and swap out the stock Coils with some OME Coils to give him the lift and not sacrifice performance.

That's what we suggest first and never mentioned preloading the stock coils.

Just by swapping the coils and without the preload, how much of a lift would it be?

Depends on what length coils you go with. You can go with anywhere from like 1-2.5” or so of lift with OME’s coils.

Perfect that's the range I wana be in. About that 2 mark. If I go with the Dakars, should I still get AAL with it or no?

You’ll get about 2-3” of lift with the Dakars alone - personally I wouldn’t go for the AAL unless you’ll be doing a lot of load carrying.

Not much for heavy loads. Maybe hauling the bike but that's about it. By going this route with the 5100's not preloaded with OME coils and Dakars I won't get the floaty feeling up front?

I’d go for the Dakars without AAL then. And yep, that setup will ride very well and you should feel planted on the road.
