I've discussed before how I had trouble holding a job. By the end of 2014, I'd burned through most of my savings and was pretty much broke! My parents paid for everything. As 2014 drew to an end, I wondered what the hell I was gonna do...

Then a guardian angel stepped in, in the form of the young Asian-American woman who managed my favorite watering hole. She started paying me $100 a week out of her own pocket to be her personal assistant. That was in December 2014.

In January 2015, my grandma on my mom's side passed away at the age of 88. A few months after she died, I found out that she'd left each of her grandchildren about $15K apiece!

I would like to thank my parents for allowing me to live with them rent-free this whole time!

For almost three years, I've been living on my inheritance money and the money I make barbacking and running errands.

I went from dead broke to quite comfortable in less than 6 months...

Now it's time to take the next step! It's gonna be easy, and it's certainly not going to be fun, but just an hour or so ago something clicked inside me...

LEGO models are one thing, but what is the point of binge-drinking with my friends on weekends? A couple of beers every now and then is fine, but beer is a waste of money right now...

It's a been a slow journey, but my goal is to be completely independent by age 32!

Seriously, if something came up, my only course of action would be to sell the Tacoma...

It's the only thing I own that's really worth anything!

Having your own viable, reliable transportation is a critical component to being successfully independent. The moment you lose the ability get where you need to be, your true independence is compromised. Suddenly getting to work, going to the grocery store, the DMV, the doctor, etc., etc becomes a challenge. Relying on friends/family to get you places sucks and places a burden on them. There's alway public transportation. But that requires tremendous amounts of planning and waiting around....literally. You're completely at the mercy of the bus drivers, the weather, etc.

Keep your truck....even if it means eating tuna fish and crackers for dinner.

My dad saved me tens of thousands of dollars when he bought me this truck! I'm going to drive until it dies. Considering I've got a 2.7L with less than 80K on it, I'll probably become a millionaire before this truck dies!

My boss couldn't figure out how to get the light bulb out of this sconce...
    image.jpg

She probably spent 20 minutes trying to get the damn thing out!

It took me probably 10 minutes to figure out how to get the lightbulb out, and then another 5 minutes to do the other two!

    image.jpg

    These sconces are overly complex...

Here is what they look like when assembled...

Three of the four red sconces needed a new lightbulb, as did one of the other sconces over the stairway landing...

    image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Also had to replace some flourescent lightbulbs in the prep kitchen...

Now, on to the prep kitchen...

I hate these drop-down fluorescent lights with a passion...

The make the prep kitchen feel like a morque!

    image.jpg

    They are also flimsy...

Opening the cover is easy enough, but getting the bulb(s) out is a bitch, and getting the damn cover to stay in place once you've successfully swapped out the tube is really exciting... NOT!
