For now I plan to keep the Tacoma and sell the LandCruiser. Still interested in a 3500 however.

How’s that hz perform? Ive looked into those guys in Springfield and always keep an eye out for a 5 speed hzj80 or hdt80. Sweet truck tho!

 

Awesome engine that will last forever, im curious if the 80 platform comes with a different transmission. It doesn't make a massive amount of power so it could use an additional gear, or just a 5spd manual

 

I know you can get 5 speeds, I’d be curious to see if there’s any bog to them. I know the 1hdt is basically a turbo 1hz, by the time I’m realistically able to afford one the 24 valves will coming over. I’ve always been a little scared of parts availability and the trouble of finding a mechanic I could trust for anything I couldn’t confidently handle.

Yup, 1HZ is still being put in new cars today. Mine is a luxury model and came with the auto so I know I don’t have the flexibility and additional gear that a manual has. I’ve looked into doing a transmission swap but if I ended up keeping it I’d go with retrofitting a turbo kit to it and changing out the injectors.

 

Steve Jackson has sold heaps of diesel 70’s into California and I know it can be done with mine as well. The misinformation comes from a different importer that didn’t follow through with all of the federalization paperwork which had owners getting told to kick rocks by California DMV.

Regrettably the internet is full of experts that heard a rumor second or third hand and the vomit false information every chance they get.

It’s an awesome machine that I improved by regearing and adding lockers to so I know whoever buys it will certainly enjoy. I just really want a HZJ75 RV “Troop Carrier” with the same engine and a manual transmission to tinker with and customize.
