I've had good luck with Scientific Angler and RIO. I buy whatever I can find on sale. You'll probably want a simple Weight Forward (WF) floating line for Pike.

Now Im really getting antsy to get out there! Even though the water is cold...I know at some point I'll catch a pike. I might just take the fly rod and a regular rod and mess with the fly rod the whole time, while the other rod is dead bait and bobber;)

A local fly shop could give you some pointers too. Most shops have these rods with long strands of yarn to really show how the cast strokes and line all work together. They'll appreciate your business and interest in the activity.

It really helps to understand and practice the casting stroke.

Most casting problems are due to casting too fast and trying to muscle/over power the cast. If you're casting 30' of line or 60' of line, the cast should still be the same other than a slightly longer pause to let the line straighten out. Watch your backcasts! With time you'll be able to simply feel the line and won't need to watch anymore.

Women are better casters then men as they don't try to muscle through the cast.
