I’d gladly pay $300 for the update. That’s still much cheaper than replacing with an aftermarket CarPlay unit.

So this sounds pretty much useless to 99% of tacoma owners on here? You're saying only select 2018 tacomas have it.

I was wondering the same thing! I have a 2016 and I'm hoping they port it back to that system as well. Hopefully the older 3rd gen'ers won't get screwed

2018s have the same infotainment system as the 2017s and 2016s. I think we'll see this as a system update or a dealer add-on (for a price).

Since this is Toyota, I’m expecting that only vehicles that have Entune 3.0 will have the ability to upgrade to CarPlay. I’m sure it’s technically possible to have it on Entune 2.0, but remember this is Toyota :)

So, is Entune considered the Toyota entertainment "OS?" The Toyota entertainment software is clunky at best. I'm curious if CarPlay will run on the older Entune platform at all (I own a 2016). If not, you would imagine an "OS" upgrade is possible, unless of course the hardware is not compatible. I would love CarPlay in my Tacoma. Recently rented a Tahoe and the CarPlay interface was nice. I would also be happy with Bluetooth that worked more than half the time though.

How about less listening devices and unnecessary "entertainment" features altogether.

I just bought a pioneer NEX 2330 for 400... after all the bullshit (retention cables, wiring harnesses, data link maestro) I'm into this for 700plus. CarPlay better be worth it!!!!!

Word on the street is that it is TECHNICALLY possible... the hardware is the same, so older 3rd Gens would only need a software upgrade. Not sure if Toyota will offer it, or if someone will need to introduce a hacky way of getting it done.

I'd be willing to pay $300 to get Apple Carplay... it is super nice, just for the navigation alone...

Just because it looks the same, doesn't mean the hardware is identical.

if i'm paying $300 for something stereo related, it's going to be an aftermarket stereo.

I’m hoping this will be an upgrade of software or plug and play radio.
