I just bought two 5100 front shocks for my '12 Tacoma and I was wondering if I could do the install myself. The videos on youtube are mostly for 3rd gen tacomas but I've heard it can be done with a breaker bar, torque wrench and a jack. I am going to set them at 1.75" in the front only to level it out. If anyone has done the install and can explain it for a 2012 Prerunner, that would be great.

Allen wrench and a wrench. I personally like to take my tire off so it's easier. Stick a Allen on the top and wrench it off. Wrench the bottom bolt off and done. Install 5100.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't read the part that said Front.

So I won’t need a breaker bar or torque wrench?

There is a method for using a jack to compress the strut to remove and install the 5100’s. The truck needs to be on jackstands at least in the front. You jack up the LCA and then unbolt the top, slowly uncompressing the spring by lowering the jack. If i had to do it again id pay someone. Smashed my finger to shit.

Don’t forget bro lean spacer for drivers side.

Will drivers side lean be an issue with a 1.75" lift/level?

I just did this with my 2.7 4x4. I recommend dropping the LCA, that was pretty easy for me (1st time ever installing something like this). There is a great video on YouTube if you can find it. I did use Jack stands, and used a jack to raise/lower the LCA to remove the assembled shock assy. I also recommend using a spring compressor, or having a local shop remove/install the spring for you. Just my $.02.
