Hertz Audio...known but unknown?

Yes, I should have took pics once I installed. I got an adapter off of Amazon, 1.5" hole for the tweeters I got.
The mids mount into an adapter, the Metra adapter is noted in my post

Back in my day Blaupunkt was were it was at but theve seemed to drop off the radar. I've never heard of this brand. I've got JBL in my truck and it sounds decent but not very loud. I wonder how it would sound if Toyota went with Bose instead of JBL.

 

FYI $100 is less than dealer cost, I doubt you'll find a better speaker at that price.

 

Had bose from Factory in an old maxima. That was a decent sounding system for stock.

I bought an ES F25.5 sub last night, I’ll let you know how it sounds in my truck after it gets here.

 

Hertz is a quality brand. I used to have two 12" Hertz HX300 subs. I have a Hertz HDP5 amp that will power my sound system in my convertible.

 

Ive have the 6.5 deci speakers and they are honestly great. Always get compliments on the highs

I've installed and listened to tons of Hertz speakers in a ton of different configurations. I'd say 90% of people would be thrilled with Energy speakers and a good amplifier and installation. I recommend:

1. Go with Energy 6.5" components
2. Mount the tweeters in the sail panels, use the angled adapters to aim them toward the center of the truck.
3. Upgrade to an aftermarket head unit if you haven't already done so
4. Do a 10 " or 12" sub wherever you can fit one.
5. Buy an amp with more rated power than the speakers say that you'll need, but tune your gain structure conservatively.
6. Install sound dampening in your doors.
7. Go with solid HDPE or MDF speaker adapter instead of one of the plastic injection molded ones.

I understand that not everyone is into their stereo projects enough to do all of these things, but if you can touch on 3-4 of them, you should be very happy with the results. If you can do all 7, you'll be thrilled.

They come with angled adapters. Lot's of people mould custom sail panels (that little triangle panel on the inside of your door, directly opposite of the side-view mirrors. You don't have to go all out and mould them custom; the angled adapters make it easy to install and aim them if you're OK with the look. Aiming the tweeters like this and mounting them in that location will give you the best response, and still make for a relatively easy install. The Hertz Energy components have an adjustable crossover, and with the tweeters mounted in that location, you'll want it in the -2db position for both sides.

And as far as the quality of Hertz, I come from a high-SQ car audio background. Hertz speakers are my go-to for sound quality, performance, and prices that represent what you're getting. I had a 2-way Mille front stage in my last Tacoma that sounded incredible and would rock your socks off. I installed a 3-way Mille setup in another Tacoma that topped my own setup, and is one of the best car audio systems I've heard to date. In my current truck, I have had almost no time to pursue the grand stereo plans that I had for it when I bought it. For now, I have Hertz Deici components, and a 15 year old 12" Orion sub all powered off of one 4-channel amp with a carefully tuned gain structure. It kicks a surprising amount of ass for how cheap and simple my current setup is. I don't know of any other speakers that can perform like Hertz at their respective price points.

I recently upgraded my factory door speakers to Hertz and could not be happier with my set up. The sound is so vibrant and clean.

 

There was mention on Amazon of counterfeit hertz speakers floating around. Anyone know anything about this?

 

Big help thank you. I just installed the 6x9s (ecx 690.5s) and holy shit-either the factory amp cannot push these (obviously) or the OEM speakers actually have better bass!

Lol. They are so bright with almost little to NO bass. I have them paired to hertz rears also.

Im not too concerned about the bass because I have a 4 way amp ready to install and going to rely on a sub eventually for some kick- but that project is coming sooner than expected now lol.

How are you finding the lows/bass?

 

Havent heard anything about that, but a big local shop here has good deals on hertz stuff so Ive bought from them.

So what your saying is I will have SOME bass once the amp is in!? Even with no sub yet?

 

I'm running two amps and one sub woofer. My mids kick out some bass, but the sub completes the system.

 

I had the 6.5" running on an amp for a couple weeks before I got the sub and they had great mid bass

 

What you really need is a sub woofer. These door speakers focus on mid-bass and high frequencies.

Besides, Tacoma doors are noisy and have tons of rattles unless you deaden them. Having those low frequencies produced inside of the door really brings those rattles and vibrations out.

Put a 10" or a 12" in a sealed box somewhere in the back and you'll be glad you did.
