Thanks, HackD, just the information I was looking for. I was going to ask about wheel bearing stress, but didn't want to bug you. Looks like you anticipated my question and answered it. Seems like this info should be in a sticky as I'm sure a lot of people have the same questions/concerns...

It would be interesting to know real world data on axle stub bearing stress with different offsets, driving conditions, etc....how long it takes damage to occur, cost of repairs...just to kind of know where the limits are...

What kind of offset are you running on your wheels?

In the meantime, I'm going to check out your build thread...and FWIW (and probably not much) Canada was my territory when I managed resellers for GoldMine Software back in the day...got to stay at the Royal Canadian when the u.s. dollar was 2:1....room service, fresh squeezed orange juice and blueberry pancakes for days...but I digress.

The rim's offset are +40 .. i believe our OEM are +45 .. OEM inset is just slightly more than these RTX rims overall, by 5mm.

I am expecting to be replacing wheel bearings/axle stub ends sooner, rather than later. I have been running the heavier aftermarket rims with heavier tires since 46,000 km, and switched to the much heavier 10 ply 235/85R16's at 98,000 km appx. I'm at 106,000 km now. I had the bearings/axle stubs specifically checked at the time that those tires were replaced, and they were good at that time .. but i don't expect to see full service life out of them either.

Wut? Having stayed in Canada, and no mention of Poutine, or Tim Horton's, or the heavy duty mosquitos that will attempt to carry you away? Heresy, LOL.

I note, in this and other threads that you are asking questions in .. it appears you are trying to nail down a 16x7" rim assembly - and are finding they aren't as common as 15" rim offerings.

FWIW, and according to your tastes - I do note in doing a check-back on RTX's dealership range - that they have broken into the USA market within the past two years - check the dealer locator. I will be the first to say that these rims that i have, are likely an acquired taste - they are a bit flashy for a pick-em-up truck, and really are more commonly seen on compact coupes and small SUV's.. i've seen a RAV4, and a Honda Accord wearing my same rims, in addition to the Jeep Liberty that i pulled mine off of. Nonetheless.. i've grown to really like them for the distinctiveness. An option in your search. If you need additional 'stance', i'm sure a set of 10mm spacers and extra length studs would do the job. They have other spoke patterns/designs also, at pretty reasonable cost.

Check these charts for offset/backspace/rim width relationships:

Their 'light truck' line also includes this interesting option in a 16x8 pattern with an offset of +12 .. certainly one of the better rim tire options available to me, anyway.. A set if 60.1 -> 73.1 centerbore adapter spacers and a set of 'tuner' lugs, and you should be good with a set of rims with specs like that. I'm going to bookmark this link in any case, for future reference (more or less 80,000 km away, hopefully).

Thanks for the link and info, Hack. Those are nice looking rims. I'm trying to keep a lower profile as I'm planning on heading south of the border...but I will keep the bearings/axle stubs in mind. We're at about 132K on OEM rims/tires...

It has been many moons since I was in Canada...and only for a couple of days. So, I've heard of Poutine, but never tried it....fries with some kind of gravy on 'em, is that right? That's probably way oversimplifying it. Sounds good to me, though. I'm going to have to try them. I've got family in Ely, Minnesota. They probably have it there. You'll have to clue me in on Tim Horton's...and thankfully I never experienced the heavy duty mosquitos.

Hack, thanks again for the info and link. I posted an update in another thread about some 16x7 and 15x7 wheels I've got on order to test fit...I'm really looking for some simple looking, low-cost black steel rims...I'll go alloy if necessary if it's not too much extra in price. Thanks again for the suggestions.

Nice looking wheel. I'm going to have to figure out this "centerbore" and "tuner" lug stuff. Just when you think you've got it all figured out...:frusty:

    Hey guys,

Ive been reading some threads and not getting any consensus on 16x8 rims and biggest tires you can run with them. Anyone care to chime in? I was planning to get some Method NV 16x8 BS:4.5 Offset:0 and i was wondering what the biggest size tire i can run with a Fatbob's lift and I've already done the black box mod.

    Thanks

Tacoma's are 'Hub-centric'. They rely upon the precise diameter of the center hub of the hub backplate assembly to keep the wheel centered and balanced. The inside diameter of the hole in the center of the rim is referred to as the centerbore measurement. The OEM steelies use non-centric lug-nuts that don't act to center the wheel in position on the studs, as is necessary with aftermarket rims. 'Tuner lugs' generally have both a conical seating face that is compatible/designed to work with aftermarket wheels, and are slimmer than the OEM lug nuts, which facilitates easy tool use with alloy rims, that have the lugs recessed into the face of the rim, rather than sitting on the face of the rim, as with the OEM steelies. A hub-centric spacer adapter is insurance to make sure that the wheel remains fixed hub-centrically.

    It's all just terminology.
