The rivets broke on the mounts so I threw them out. Ended up making my own crossbars..

Baby will eat Ramens before I part out the truck

No but seriously. They wouldn’t be hard to remake, I chose aluminum and right now I can’t do aluminum work. When I designed them and fabbed the pieces I went to a buddy house to Tig them up. It’s a ways away just to cruise over there again. A lot of local guys are laying good mig welds, you can easily do it out of steel. Are you going to drill through the cap to mount them or get the Thule track system for the cap?

If I got the Thule type I'd install the rail. If I was to get something fabbed like this I would drill right through. The cap isn't in bad shape but isn't perfect either so I'm not concerned with holes.

Gotchya. If you look at the fail video again you really don’t need the tracks for the Thule mounts, at least the ones I had. I drilled and bolted them through the cap. Save ya like $100 on the tracks. Going back I think I would get them tho, maybe dispurse weight more evenly.. That’s if you plan on a basket with firewood or gear or even RTT. My basket I made was on the heavy side and I would load it up with everything. All that weight going off road is what I believe caused the Thule cross bar mounts to fail. Not sure what they are rated for but definetly not intended for overlanding.

Cool thanks. No RTT for me. Just want to move my powderhounds and awning back further and possibly an additional plano box for when I can't fit it in the bed. The weight won't be anything substantial.

Hey chux. I was a huge advocate for a particular Rtt company and now I’m giving it some serious thought to go to CVT. Are you running the pioneer or the summit series?

Not familiar with Pioneer and know Summit Series is the newer series out. When I got my tent couple years ago they just switched up the names a bit to catagorize the selection better I guess. I have the Mt. Shasta Extended

Copy that. How’s the deck construction any bowing at all? I am sssuning you are finding it still very sturdy.

There is some bowing on the deck half that mounts to truck, just around the mounting tracks. Nothing that really concerns me at this point.

For sure- I really like this setup. Like the no drill/weld on the bumper. Curious what piece you found to do that.

Does your swing-out on your rear bumper shake? I looked at one today from another manufacturer and it shaked a lot more than I thought it should. I figured it would shake like crazy driving down the hwy. It was about the same specs as yours. Spare tire, jerry can and table on a single long swing-out. It wasn't high clearance, but I'm not sure that matters.

I used a 3/16 OD black coated aircraft cable with crimp sleeves and a turnbuckle. The cable I sourced online and the crimp sleeve and turnbuckle I got at hardware store. I pretty much got the idea of this setup years ago from an overland bound video, rereferanced it the day I installed them. Here’s the link to the video
    https://youtu.be/dVXDuarZkKw

Mine has a slight shake as anything with moving parts on a trail would, but no shake on the highway. I’ve filmed a couple trail rides and hill climbs where I noticed the shake but to be honest the entire truck was shaking cuz of the terrain. @Pelfreybilt did an amazing job on the swingout. I’ve pushed passed the recommended weight load limit and my swing out is still stout and opens and closes perfectly. I’d say it has to do with both the pivot side using bearings and a castle nut for a tight fit and the latch side where there is a poly assist pad to get the locking handle into place, the locking handle is welded to a round tube which rests in a circular cup when closed. It’s not just all the latch holding the swingout. I believe it was designed like this to be trail strong and minimize the shaking your talking about. If you get a chance to see a rig with a Pelfrey swing out rear check out the components i mentioned.

    Responded

Garage build continues.. I wanted to get all my project lumber off the ground so I was thinking bout making some racks to go on a bumpout in the garage. Turns out the bump out is a large void to conceal all the wiring going from the breaker box to the attic. Plan is to reinforce a false wall and add the lumber racks to that. Picked up some 3” strap plates and 1 1/2” square tube from the metal shop yesterday to make the racks. Before the false wall I’m running the switch from the exhaust fan to the back garage wall. Location I picked next to a light switch and garage door opener was perfect, all studs o_O

I ended up notching out the stud for two gang boxes. One box will be ceiling lights and exhaust fan and the other will be garage door opener and ceiling fans. I saved the old ceiling fans from our house as we replaced them, they’ll be perfect to circulated the hot air that sits at the ceiling and keep things nice and cool in the summer..

I don’t post any wood projects here but I make a lot for our house. I’ve made foyer table, coffee table, triangle wall book shelf and plan to make a bed frame/head board for us as well as a dining room table. Here’s a mirror I finished up from December..
