Hey y'all! I've heard of parking lot meets, offroad park meets, trails meets, mod day meets.. but have yet to hear of a good ol' camping meet. So here it is!

The weekend of June 9th some local guys and I will be heading to Virginia for a Bday trip. I've had destination birthdays for the last three years and this year is no different with Flag Pole Knob in my sights! Birthday trips include Vermont, Maine, and being on a cross country trip I had a Bday in Moab Utah. FPK has become a sort of personal destination achievement after two previous times on my way there, the trips were derailed.

    Pics for attention..

First time: Overlanding through Virginia with some buddies it was day two and we were on our way to FPK. About thirty minutes out from the trail head we decided to stop at a gas station real quick to top off the tanks. Last to turn into the station my buddy got hit by on coming traffic. His rear passenger tire was waffled and rear axle was bent.. Trip quickly became a rescue mission being 300+ miles from home. After the cops left and the other person's car towed we were left to figure out our options as night fell. We managed to get to a Uhaul to make camp and rent a trailer in the morning to get back to Jersey.

Second time: On a solo adventure back in Virginia, I was traveling around finding points of interest and camps along the way. I stopped into Blue Ridge Overland Gear's new shop, explored and camped Potts Mountain, GW State Park, and Oronoco NF campground. After breakfast and packing up at Oronoco, next stop being Flap Pole Knob I took the trail from camp up to the Blue Ridge Parkway where there was cell service. As all missed calls and text messages were coming through some from my wife seemed concerning. I called her immediately and she said our one year old dog Finley wasn't good. She woke up at in the middle of the night and took him to a 24 hour vet facility. With previous unfortunate health issues and this situation seeming even worse I headed straight home. Seven hour drive home and another hour to the vet, I put my first dog down..

    ** Trip Date: June 9, 2018 **
So here it is.. A trip that I could call the return of the return of Flag Pole Knob. I'd like to invite everyone to meet us at the top. Simple plan is to have a good time and I always say the more the merrier. We will be camping out so come prepared with all the essentials.. water, food, shelter, BEER. Anyone bringing additional firewood is a plus. If I see a lot of interest in here I'll make a name list so y'all can see who to expect. Looking forward to seeing new and old faces, camp setups, and Flag Pole Knob!!
