My truck is 4 days old and I just realized the JBL "premium audio" absolutely sucks! Thankfully I see there is a wealth of info on TW and it doesn't have to cost a ton.

I've got some reading to do!

You may need to do a little extra reading, my understanding is that the JBL introduces a few minor differences that could complicate things but I haven't done much research into the matter myself.

Oh yeah, I'm the guy who researches the heck out of things, maybe too much haha. But I'll read everything I can find until I fully understand it.

I used to be big into audio, had $1k-4k systems in some of my previous cars, used to design/sell home theaters. I don't need anything crazy in my Tacoma, but I need something worthy of more than just talk radio.

Well I read the last few pages and the first freaking 45.... I wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing any revelations. I gave up though. I bought myself the kickers both open box from Crutchfield for my birthday and my wife I believe got me the tweeters. If not, we’ll there goes another gift for myself. Haha

I’ll shop for some of the sound dampening material. Anyone have any suggestions besides the Noico stuff? I think I gathered 10-12sqft is enough? Looks like 10 sqft is $22 now on Amazon.

I’m a musician and the audio is awful. I think I’ll be satisfied as I don’t blast bass anymore, but if not I can always add a sub. What’s a few more hundred dollars...am I right?

If there was anything you came across in your search through the thread that would be appropriate to add to the OP, let me know! The setup is crisp, clear, and balanced - bass is plenty loud for most and is no longer muddy as is the case w/ stock speakers. I used to invest a lot more in audio but this does the trick for my ears these days!

Thanks I think the OP is very thorough. I guess I should have just asked since you appear to be maintaining it with current info. Oh well I got some solid reading in this week.

Quick question for those that did the install. I have everything on order and I went with 80 Mil Noico 18 sq ft for mainly around and behind speakers. Should I go ahead and get some of the plastic clips and rivets for spares or do most successfully remove and install door panels without incident?

I had some on hand, and broke 1 during the install. It's not a bad thing to have.....

Ok thanks. I'm planning to install the sound dampening similar to your installation.

The rivets appear to be these.

I know I saw a link to the white clips, but not sure where. Anyone know off hand?

**Update I found these but not sure if I'll commit yet to purchasing. https://www.amazon.com/Garnish-Moul...rd_wg=aVFcN&psc=1&refRID=Q041KTNMJ3WVDN5NK4H9

I wouldn't be worried about those. It's the other onesScreenshot_20180213-165632.jpg

Did this upgrade, thanks OP for keeping the first post updated. Went to it often.

Added the JL audio sub and can't imagine music/life without one. I have never seen a post where someone regretted a sub.

I have the Entune plus and can crank these speakers all the way up and have zero distortion. It's a good match.

I do have a question though.

Did anyone ever figure out if the Entune Premium puts out a stronger signal than the Plus?

I have scoured the internet and can find Zero specs in that regard on these head units. No BS rms specs no nothing.

If I knew there was any difference in the output signal I'd do a swap in a heartbeat. I only need a teensy bit more sound and I don't feel like going amp and wiring up all those speakers.

So it's not in the OP I saw- and didn't read through all the posts. Does this mod work on second gens?

Subaru tweeters are a direct substitute for 3rd gen Tacoma. Same wiring harness. Not plug and play on 2nd gen.
