I researched this question. The biggest problem with cold starts is the oil is too thick, therefore I will be using 0W-20 AmsOil Signature rather than 5W-20.

Like many others, Mobil 1 5w-30 synthetic and OEM filters purchased in bulk from ebay site recommended here at TW. I change both every 6 months or so even though I am a low mileage driver ( 7600 miles ). Fumoto valve makes it easy for me, now if I can figure out how to not burn my knuckle every time.

the only thing with synthetic oil is that since it has smaller molecules than traditional oil, it is possible to see leaks appear when switching to synthetic, indicating worn out gaskets.

Gaskets get worn over time, so there can be tiny cracks in them through which the bigger molecules of traditional oil can't seep through, but the finer molecules of synthetic can. These cracks would eventually result in a leak anyway, even with traditional oil

Synthetic doesn't cause leaks but it does hilight problems. Old engines/old gaskets leak and old oil can gum up the leaks. As the crud gets cleaned out they show up. But it's like pulling a bandaid off, the damage is there even if it's covered up.

I used to work with a guy that packaged auto fluids. He said the only thing they changed between name brand and store brand was the color of the bottle.

I'm sorry, that was uncalled for. Let me elaborate. Beer is amazing, beer is similar to wine in complexity and variation. There is shit wine, and there is shit beer. If you think all beer is good you're an alcoholic.

What if I had said..."beer is like oil"?

Would that make me a petroholic?

I had all the gear oil changed with synthetic in my 2009 tacoma 5 speed 4x4, and it made a world of difference. It must of had conventional beforehand put in by mistake.

I sent a sample in to Blackstone a little while ago, I will do these every 20K or so to keep an eye on things. I also blow out my engine air filter every oil change and swap it out every 10-15K
