There's a 23% reduction in premiums according to a quote I just got compared to my current insurance (same coverages). I have been told the rates could go up after they "get ya"... but was wondering how much truth there is to that.

Also, are they easy to deal with when you actually have to file a claim and get money/parts from them?

I know much of this is going to be anecdotal, but I think that holds some weight in these discussions so please feel free to share your stories.

Just say nope to Geico, Progressive, that white trash army guy and Liberty Mutual.

Geico spent nearly $1.1 billion dollars on ads last year I wonder how many people they boned along the way

Yeah, I remember hearing that in an 'advertising' class in college. Imagine how much money they would save their customers by not playing stupid commercials every 5 minutes. Yet they are still cheaper than my current company.. how??

A friend worked for them for about 5 years and always complained that they're more about the "margins and metrics" than the customer service......He was pretty worn out before he got out and went to a bigger company. I've never dealt with them, but my friend's complaints about how they treat their adjusters was enough to make me not want to.

They squeeze everyone down the line during the claim process.

I have had them for years. Had to make one claim. I had a 2007 Road King that I bought through my buddy who owns a car lot at auction. I paid 9500 bucks for it. 6 months later I got rear ended by a texting teenage girl and the bike got totaled. I made the claim under my Geico policy, and they gave me $12500 for the bike, and they gave it to me fast.
Needless to say, I was pleased. My son was on his motorcycle right next to me, and his bike was totaled too, he had State Farm, and they squeezed him so hard, for so long, he finally caved and took less than his bike was worth.

Geico is also known for providing radar and Lidar guns to police departments.

Whatever would they do that for?

I have Geico and they've been great. Had a Subaru get rear ended and they were a major help. Very happy with the service and end result.

Do they screw some people? I would assume so. Do all insurances screw people along the way to making profits and paying off investors and c-suite staff...it's capitalism dude. Good and bad comes of it.

You guys have me leaning towards going with Geico. Seems like they are about the same as my current insurance as far as customer service. Some bad, mostly good.

It's nothing more than a public relations stunt. Anyone with common sense knows that ticket writing is not all about "traffic safety" it's about revenue.

Anyone who thinks that it's not done for revenue in some cases has their head in the sand. It's kind of like forfeiture laws in this country.

I had geico and they were fine. Quick to help out on claims (even with diminished value from another insurance company when I got hit), glass claims were painless (gotta love Colorado...new windshield every year), and premiums were way cheaper than anything I shopped against at the time. Seems like everyone here who has had them had no problems, and the rest of the comments are speculation based off perception. I say go for it.

A guy wrecked into me a little over 20 years ago and he had Geico which happened to be the first time I had ever heard of them. The Claim Procedure sucked, they had me drive a long way out to a Car Dealership where they had parked a little trailer. They had 2 adjusters look at my car and gave me a little print out as they were escorting me out of the Trailer and I am trying to read the print out, as soon as I got outside I notice they had the wrong style headlight so I try to go back inside and they had already locked the door! I knocked on the door and told them they made an error and they told me to go away and take it up with the main Headquarters of Geico itself, feels like I had to make about 50 phone calls to them before they finally decided to cover the cost of the correct style (expensive) Headlight Assembly but from a Junkyard. After that experience and the way they treated me I would never recommend that Company!!!!!!!

My brother works for Geico and even with his family discount they were higher than most other places I got quotes from lol. I've got a spotless record, too. That's here in SoCal though.

I will say this, they train their adjusters very well. They essentially trained my brother to become a mechanic so I saved a bit of money taking my truck to him for mods/repairs.

I'm in the same boat. Shopping for insurance due to a new vehicle purchase and Geico is freaking cheap.

Wife had Geico in the past and she was happy with it back then.

I was about to start a thread as well, but noticed you had already started one

I ended up pulling the trigger. I don't drive all that much anymore (ride a bike to work), so I'll take my chances if they end up being crappy if/when I need to file a claim. Though I did some outside research and it was mostly good reviews
