Has anyone attached a Thermal/Night vision camera on GoPro mount yet? Any setup pics to share?

Thermal? Lol. Put surplus IR lights on your bumper and wear your night vision. It’s hard to drive through a go pro.

Honest question... am I talking with solid snake? I don’t mean to gush but you’re my hero

Thermal cameras dont use IR lights, but yeah, it would be nice for avoiding deer.

I tried using IR nightvision goggles I got from work while driving on a remote highway once- turned off all lights and was cruising along and what the heck- passed a CHP cruiser parked off the road with its lights off. I forgot I was wearing the goggles when I saw it and passed him in the dark! Well, he pulled me over and said I scarred him big time as he didnt see me - he tried out my goggles for about 5 minutes walking around in the dark and said he wanted to get a pair, and told me to drive with my lights on and have a nice evening!

Yeah, I know. I was saying mount IR bumper lights and run IR headgear. I wasn’t even addressing thermal. I can’t imagine driving without IR floods. You must have been going slow :)

You said thermal/nightvision... to be honest, if you can afford it, it would be better to use thermal over a IR system- they do so much better than IR nightvision when there are oncomming lights, which can leave permanent burn marks in the screen (flashes from guns and electronic photo flashes kill them, even if they have cutoff circuits).

No. I laughed at the notion of thermal on a go pro mount. The OP said thermal.

Lights don’t mess with my NVG tubez.

Oh its you! :) but its totally feasible-FLIR makes tiny hi res thermal cameras people put on their little drones! And they cost about the same as a consumer DSLR camera body.

Lol. If op wants to record nothing at driving speeds, sure. But if op plans to drive at a reasonable speed with thermal for optics, he’s gonna need more than that and I wanna know his budget.

Hes obviously planning something, better call the FBI! :)

But really- driving with goggles on is like people who drive around with a gas powered cutoff saw in their trunk, they are probably up to no good.

He’s gotta be planning some fun shit romping around at night. Thermal just isn’t “for funsies” money... I can’t imagine anyway. Especially with today’s IR tubes.

Yeah- at the time we bought our Gen 3+ goggles, they cost $5k each, now you can get them for half that, and a monocullar for much less. They are fun to use in the woods though- I used to do bat surveys for work with them.

I must be out of the loop lol. Last time I checked thermal was astronomical and weak unless it was mil. Now that I think of it, the snap on guy showed us a thermal bore scope... I guess the tech has caught up with civi consumer wallets

Yeah, Id ask baseball players what type of bats they preferred in the dark.

Naw - I used to be a wildlife biologist, and I got paid to explore old mines for bats before they either permanently closed them or put gates in them. Now I’m a science and technology teacher.
