The adhesive between magstrip and Velcro failed. We have some pretty intense summer heat and the adhesive just won't hold up over time. Think it took two years and it was toast. I purchased some more Velcro without adhesive backing and some heavy duty outdoor double sided tape to replace it but found that letting it flap around in the occasional high winds (like I had today) was no big deal. Maybe someday but it's not a priority.

I think the heavy duty outdoor double sided tape will work and be a whole lot easier than rivets. I've started using it for all sorts of shit with good luck. Even the front and rear license plates on my Jeep...look Ma, no screws!

    Yeah. In your locked garage.

Just kidding. No locks. Just unsnap the sides and you are in. I don't worry about it. There will never be anything of value in my cab or the bed and me not nearby. If a thief wants in,m he is getting in. Hard cap or soft cap doesn't matter.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
I handle it the same. I just hope they are bright enough to pop the snaps and not cut through the fabric. Since Sept 2013 so far so good.

Cheaper to replace a Softopper panel than the rear door of a hard topper that was pried open or smashed. The difference in time it takes to get into one or the other is measured in seconds.

How is everyone securing the rear flap? Velcro to the gate or the magnet mod?

Nothing. Just letting flap in the breeze. It doesn't seem to hurt anything.

After I get the xpel strip on the tailgate, my plan is to use some squares of hook velcro to sandwich some neodymium magnets to the flap across the bottom

So let's cut him some slack and hope he clarifies that he tolerates water entering the truck bed and not that he is concealing the junk in a pair of panties. Not that there is anything wrong with that of course.

I guess that would work as long as you are not worried about water draining into the bed.

I keep all my fishing gear near the tail gate, so I don't think this would work for me.

I only get a few drops in the back and they are only on the inside of the tailgate itself. It drains straight through, the bed stays dry. And that's with Seattle rain.

Go on, give the tuck a try... you just might like it.
