1997 t4r has super duty axles, 5.13s locked front and rear. 3 link front with 14" kings. Rear 63s.
My whole rear suspension is going to change in a year or so and will have a axle with 70+”s of wheel mounting surface and the towers are going to be cut off.

Unless you're running s offset wheel combo and cut the tower and straighten them you will rub the shock with 5125s.

It looks like there is still more room before the top of the wheel well to fit a longer shock without cutting the bed in your pics, but I guess that would push the shock too far to the outside and rub the wheel really bad at stuff hey?

@IronPeak Dunno if you seen this, but this is one way to get an upper eye-mount shock onto our trucks with no adapter.

Thanks Tim. That's super good information to know. I add that I was referring to a shock stem/eye adapter. ;)

I have seen this and I am following the thread. Definitely is a brilliant, inexpensive hack to add eye mounts plus extra travel to our stem mount trucks. I still haven't determined whether the extra inchs of travel are worth the trouble. Likely going with your setup next, b110s/6112s. Just don't have time for the rebuilding schedule of the "upper level " systems. I, like you, have determined that behind love, TIME is the most valuable resource there is. I want to go to a "ride it til it loses enough effectiveness then throw in trash " philosophy when installing the next setup.

How much do you think a shop would charge me to do the 63 swap if I had all the parts? I can’t weld to save my life nor do I know anyone.. I wonder if there’s any shops with enough experience doing this in Cali..

A shop is going to charge a good amount. Find a guy in your area that is willing to do it. I charge 500 labor to do the swap and can have it done in a day

Wish you lived in Cali.. I probably just start a thread to see who’s willing to do it for me. I’m not even willing to try, I’d probably weld the shock mounts 2 inches apart from each other.. nothing would ever line up again lol.

@Tacomasprime05 not sure if it can be done with Kings but looks like a great option to compliment the mid travel front.

Any pictures of the shock mount tucked closer to the frame to minimize shock rubbing? Trying to get an idea on how you guys cut and braced the shock tower.

Also, did any of y’all weld the back side of the mount? Only way I could see getting to that is removing the bed completely.

Welded the vertical and bottom. Also plug welded. Right where the tower is bent. I put cuts and cut a triangle to weld over it and filled in the cut. If you don’t have negative offset wheels you will rub. Better to do a hoop or a inboard shock mount
