Depends on what your goals are. My opinion and experience: DO NOT GO THERE.

Pros: It's cheap. That's about where it ends.

Cons: Everything else. They have shitty equipment, and a shitty attitude.

They have what's called a "lunk alarm." If you lift too heavy, or drops weights, or make too much nice, it goes off, and they kick you out.

I go to a Snap Fitness and have not personally gone to a Planet Fitness. However a few people I know who go there are either in love with the place or were attracted to the cheap price and then hated it after a week compared to their old (non-chain) gyms for various reasons from the amount of people always there to the types of weights they have.

I would assume they probably have some type of free trial so you can try it out before you get a paid membership?

They are rampant here in the SE -
everywhere? I thought it might be worth joining just for the opportunity for nice shower facilities after camping, long drives, or starting to overland - plus they are right the down the street with options I do not have at home and cheap.

    Planet Fatness. lol.

All you need to know: A "workout" safe space for fat people who don't want their overweight feelings hurt by people who don't consume enough calories for 3 humans in 1/2 a day.

Once you get to a good place you won't give a shit what anyone thinks of where you train. Focus on your goals and do the best you can with what's available to you. Personally? I don't give a shit what type of equipment a place has-sorta. Do they have a squat rack? Good, I can probably workout there. In the case of planet fitness, they don't have enough of what I need to justify even 10 dollars a month. I'd rather do anytime fitness. Personal opinion.

Prices are really good imo, only reason I dropped PF is b/c the locations aren't really close and I was tired of sitting in traffic both ways..

When I went a couple years ago they had pizza day. I work late tho and always missed it, but saw the signs (pizza boxes, full trash cans, etc lol..)

    Never really understood that tbh

From my experience it depends on the location. The first one I tried was a dump but the second one I went to with a friend from work was actually really nice. It was a brand new location, but they had cleaning staff working constantly to keep things good. They had better, more well-maintained cardio equipment than the $70/mo Life Time Athletic I belong to.

Franchise bars, franchise auto repair places; I tend to avoid them like the plague because the service generally sucks...

I go to a gym that's independently and locally owned, and I bring my truck to an independent mechanic.
