So I changed my downstream oxygen sensor on the 4Runner, which required a new bung to get welded on since the old mount was rusting away. After that I took a short trip towards San Saba in order to better calculate my mpg.... 16.5mpg with a semi loaded roof basket and my brother. I can live with that, gladly actually. What really sucks is that my fuel capacity is only about 13-14 gallons at most even though I have an 18 gallon tank! Which puts my range around 220 miles..... That's a bummer on a 2200+ mile trip. What to do.... What to do....

So much time will be lost on fuel stops!

Ford econoline van tank behind the axle between frame rails... I have used this tank on several Toyota trucks and 2 4runners in the past. Requires Fabrication but it nets about 19 gallons of useable fuel.

Wow.... That's a thought. Definitely will look into doing it when I come back. Two questions, how will I fill it up.... And do i need another fuel pump/ switch and all that jazz?

I routed the filler hoses wher they worked the best and made a transfer pump system to the stock tank.

First, that's an awesome price for all that!

Second, it looks like a D-ring that the thimble is connected to. But I'm guessing it's gotta be an open hook... otherwise, how did you connect it and how are you going to remove the thimble for use?

Lastly, since you have a closed thimble on there, why leave the rope exposed? I know you have a cover on it but it would be less exposure to wind it all the way. That's what Factor 55 recommends anyway.

The thimble hole is opened up for the D ring ends to fit thru, unlike the factor 55 thimbles where you can only get the D-ring screw thru it. They fit thru just perfect so I'm guessing they made it just for that. Also since I just mounted it I know that thimble will rest pressed up against the fairlead
and I'll probably move it to that position, I just put it on the D ring to kinda "show off" for a couple days lol
