    Too many to list.
Hey everyone, I’m new here and I had a question about the towing package. I have a 2005 Tacoma with the TRD Off Road package. It’s an automatic V6 4.0L

The question I had was about the towing capacity. I don’t think mine came with a factory towing package because it doesn’t have the oil cooling but it does have a small mini radiator in front of what seems two radiators?

My tow hitch says 5000 gross weight any advice you all have on how much I can tow? I was hoping I could tow a small zero turn and a small trainer and keep it under 5000 but google says the max is 3500?

Pics of this? That may be the built in tranny cooler. And if it's actually a TRD OR it should have the tow package.
    7-pin light harness already there?
    OEM hitch vs aftermarket?
All good clues to factory tow package.
Small trailer and zero turn should be under the 3500# you're talking about anyway.

You should be under 2500lbs with trailer and zero turn. Anything over 3000lbs combined would need trailer brakes.

That truck with the factory tow package is rated for 6500 lbs. So if it says 5000 on the hitch, I'm guessing that's aftermarket.

Doesn’t make sense if you have a tow package and trailer hitch is only rated for 5000lbs. Also since you don’t have the oil cooler your truck doesn’t have the tow package. Your max is 3500 lbs.

There is no 5000lb receiver. class 2 is 3500lbs, 3 is 8000. Your ball mount may read otherwise and those are easily changed.

The only safety type gear on the tow package is the hitch and brake controller wiring. The tranny cooler will help the tranny survive if you work it hard but it's not a requirement.

Assuming you have the tow package, I believe it's 6500 with a max 700 tounge weight. I would say it depends on how far you plan to tow, as to how much you would want to push that envelope. I purchased a travel trailer to haul across country for work several times a year, I limited my purchase to 5000 and a 500 lb tounge. I have the tow package, use a weight distribution hitch and tekonsha break. Handles it with no real issues. Gas mileage sucks, but I get to stay in my own place instead of a motel while working out of state.

Bottom line you first have to determine for sure if you have the tow pack or not.
