It's Kohler-Andrae State Park here in Wisconsin, but I would agree the picture has a vaguely PNW feel to it. We definitely are lacking your scenery, but sometimes the quality of light around the Lake Michigan shoreline here can be pretty stunning.

I love how vast this country is with all of its different landscapes. What I love about Washington is you can drive over a mountain pass and be in a entirely different climate.

For sure, it's pretty amazing when you think about it. I grew up out east near the Adirondacks and while we don't have anything remotely resembling mountains here, I will say the Great Lakes have really grown on me. They're more like micro-climates, but there's still a lot of variety here, it just comes in smaller packages. Lately Washington is tempting me though. I love snow but as long as i have access to it in the form of nearby mountains I think that'd be ok, especially if it means not having to be so obsessive about keeping the damn evil salt brine off my truck.o_O

We get a lot of snow here in Hawaii! only after a major storm and on Mauna Kea, where all the telescopes are, they close the access road then clear it for the astronomers and they put cables on the side of the road so you can't go off road! A-holes.....we get 1 to 12" from the 14000' to 10k' level but it melts fast, in a week it's gone. But a lot of guys go and fill their beds with snow and drive around town for the kids.....pretty cool seeing a mountain full of snow while you're at the beach surfing!! Only in Hawaii...

How does your PreRunner do in the winter type conditions? I have one and I'm up in the northeast, which might be interesting...

Well, unlike when I had a 4x4 I don't push my luck so much by finding snow drifts up to my doors to plow through like some of the pictures in here, haha, but for being a RWD pickup it's done surprisingly well overall and I've had no issues getting around. I have a full set of studless winter tires and 200lbs of sand strapped to the front of the bed, and the back end really doesn't feel like it wants to break loose unless I'm trying to. The most annoying part is having to be extremely mindful of what kind of surface you're on before you stop. With the ground clearance and weight over the back you can get through some pretty deep stuff with momentum but when you stop, you're f*cked. That's when you get into those classic embarrassing "RWD vehicle in snow" scenarios where the back wheel with no weight over it just spins and turns the snow into ice. Also, while we get a decent amount of snow, especially in the northern part of the state, we don't have mountains here. That'd probably be a game changer, but I think if you're in Boston you'll be fine for the most part. I can't recommend picking up a set of winter tires enough. Every time I see another vehicle, even all-wheel drive ones sliding around on all-season tires, trying to take off at a stoplight on an incline and sliding sideways instead, I think "damn, that must suck".

Thanks for the advice, I'm definitely planning on picking up something along the lines of General Grabber AT2s, and hoping that will suffice. The truck won't be on the road till late spring/early summer so I'll have to wait until next year to get a gauge on performance with weight over the axle like you say, and the AT2s. In the end I have a few buddies with huge 4x4 trucks always willing to pull me out if I get really stuck :)
