Stock filter is the best filter for your engine. I have tried a large variety of filters in the almost 13 years I have owned my truck. With parts store brands and top quality oil brands. To me it seems like at first start up the stock filter helps with dry start ups a whole lot better. It also keeps the engine more quiet at start up. The Tacoma tick also is way more quiet to. So for me and I would recommend to all, only use stock D3 fitlers

For how cheap the OEM filter is, why would anybody try to rethink the issue? I saw a thread here (not going to try an find it before my 6th cup of coffee) where they dissected an OEM filter and a leading aftermarket filter. OEM had twice the filtering media.

If you like synthetic, use it, if not, don't. Do change at the recommended 5k interval...cheap insurance.

Trying to find work arounds to a stock filter and service interval is like the the guy with the 90k Benz without 20 bucks in his pocket for gas. Don't make no sense.

Just my .02 cents...but what do I know.

I’m not looking for extended oil change intervals beyond 5k. It’s the extra oil capacity that attracted my attention.

My train of thought is the opposite ... If you can fit a larger filter which will hold more oil and probably have more filtering capacity, why would you stick with OEM? Do you also stick with OEM brakes, OEM motor oil, etc... Manufacturers will recommend the smallest filter because the few pennies they save on a smaller filter will translate into thousands of dollars saved over the millions of cars they sell. I haven't noticed any weird noises on dry starts - that's what the anti-drain valve is for.

I guesstimated at first, then checked the dip stick to make sure I wasn't under.

Amsoil 0w30 and factory filters for me. Filter gets changed every 5K and oil every 10K.

I just went 10k miles with mobil 1 extended filter got oil anaysis done and everything was good. Now I have stock oem filter and will be going 12,500 miles till next oil change. I usually stay with oem but when I get a discount on one may get a name brand sometimes. Next one will be an stp maxlife filter that I got with a coupon.

i'd be surprised that someone tries to sell fake toyota oil filters but maybe i'm naive. They are usually rather cheap at the dealership aren't they?

Toyota Oil Filter (Made in Thailand) vs. the competition........

+1. Exactly what I do too.

This ^^ though, in my experience, they're about $45 for a case of 10, including drain plug gaskets.
