So this happened somehow, somewhere. What are my options? (Besides getting used to it)

Wear it with pride. Perfect paint is for mall crawling only. Also any autoparts store sells scratch fixer kits for cheap.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
It's on plastic i would just live with it. Touching it up will most likely look worse. You could try to see if some of it can be buffed out.

Join the mall crawler club! I've had more vehicle damage and repair costs due to incidents in shopping center parking lots than anything out on the road or trails. I'd try buffing first and then lightly touching up.

Welcome to the club. Mine has scratches from trails and I barely pay them any attention.

So you'e saying the only solution to a scratch...is more scratches? Seems legit.

Bumper shroud* I would just replace the whole thing with a steel bumper. Its the cost effective measure.

I just scratched my tailgate almost just like that. I used some $8 foam buffing pads that attach to a cordless drill. A little meguiar's ultimate rubbing compound, a little ultimate polish, wax to protect. Done. Took 15 min. The white mark on the last pic is a reflection, not actually on the paint.

    • Buy some Scratch-x/rubbing compound, buff it out and put a good coat of wax on it
    • Pay somebody to buff it out professionally for considerably more $$ (but probably with better results)
    • Ignore it and live with it; it's plastic so rust isn't a concern and it's a bumper, so scratches are mostly inevitable
    • Replace it with a plate bumper
    • Accept that the truck is ruined and sell it to me for a dollar
    • Seppuku
