I’ve recently bought an 02 2.4L 5 lug regular cab.

I’ve always wanted a taco but it’s been really hard for me to find a reasonably priced first gen 4wd with a new frame. So I settled for a 2wd because I will really only be using this truck for dump runs and occasionally moving bigger items. I’ll never go off pavement with it but I’d like to lift it solely for appearance. It’s so low now that it feels more like a two seater car with a truck bed. I’m just hoping to make it look like a stock 4x4 height, nothing crazy.

I’ve read all through this forum but I haven’t been able to find a thorough write up of someone’s experience lifting this model truck.

I’m a total novice and this is what I’ve gathered so far:

Get bigger tires (235/75/15) for my stock 15 inch steel wheels. Currently I have 205/70/15 on so I’d gain about 1.3 inches(?). These should fit without modification and without rubbing correct?

    Buy this: http://www.sdtrucksprings.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=26368

Is that kit all inclusive of everything I would need? What about the coils? Do I just reuse the ones currently on the truck? This would give me 3 more inches but also make the tires stick out past the fenders right? Would the above mentioned tires fit on the stock wheels with that spindle lift? There’s a disclaimer at the bottom of the page that’s confusing me. It says specifically larger tires can’t be used on OEM wheels.

That seems basically like everything I could do within reason to me. Am I missing anything?

Also, the spindle lift is a little pricey. What about buying just this:

    http://4x4.fatbobsgarage.com/mobile...hackle-lift-kit-2wd-5lug-1995-2004-p8506.aspx

And if I went with that cheaper kit I think I’d like to replace the struts no matter what. I was thinking with something like one of these for about $90 per pair. Would any of the other struts on that list fit? Or can you recommend any other coil/strut combo?
    https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog...on,strut+/+coil+spring+/+mount+assembly,15174

Would the new struts, even at the stock size, lift it a little because they are new and not worn out?

Thanks for reading through all that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

5 lug tacomas do not have coilovers. This is why 6lug parts dont fit. The spindle lift is your best option. Gives 3” of lift. You can also do the daystar spacer which gives at most a 1” or swap out your coils for coils from a v6 tacoma that should give u about 1”. For the rear you can and an aal which gives about 1” of lift, the fabtech ones provied better ride comfert, the fat bob ones are more stiff but allow for heavier loads in the rear. Or you can go with tge 2” shakles from fabtech. Fatbob garage has everything you will need to lift your truck about 3” and the biggest size tire u will want to run is 30” with minor triming. I currently have spindles, coil spacer, aal, shakles on my truck with 30” tires. If you want links or part number im sure i can find them all for you

So the Fabtech kit that I linked would contain everything I need for the spindle lift or not? I have some coming from pretty far away to help me with the install and I want to make sure I have everything I need.

Yes the fabtech lift comes with everything. The spindles reuse all your oem parts up front. At this time if you need new rotors or wheel bearings, ball joints it will be a good time to do that, because you will have all that disassembled. In the rear all you are adding is a leaf, you can re use oem parts. Always best to change u bolts. I don’t believe the fabtech ones come with new ubolts. But you dont have to, its just highly recommend. Tool wise you will need a ball joint separator and a socket for your wheel nut. And if course all basic hand tools like sockets hammer wrenchs etc.

I'm in a similar situation. I have a 5 lug 2wd 2004 tacoma that currently has a spindle lift. I'm looking for about 2 or 3 more inches becauses it still sits lower than a stock 4x4. Where could I find v6 coils? Could I pull them off a 4x4 1st gen tacoma at a junk yard? Or does it have to be off a v6 5 lug. Kinda of clueless in this department so would appreciate the help on how to achieve the extra 3 inches of lift and would be open to hear any other ways it might be possible.

Or would these lift it some?

Also was wondering if these would work (coil spacers)

No 6lug tacoma parts will not fit, you need to find v6 coils from a 5lug, probably from a junk yard or i belive moog makes some. But that proably will only give you a inch of lift. You can also get some coil spacers but those only give about .5-1” of lift but these are not the same coil spcers as you sent. They are a large rubber block. If you want to spend $$$ you can go with a long travel kit but thats like 5k and gives about 4” of lift. Or try and find a downy mid travel kit or a doetsch or fabtech lift coils and ucas. But these are discontinued and are rare to find. All those options give about 3” of lift

Alright thanks for the help. I've been trying to find either the doetsch or fabtech coils and ucas everywhere but that makes sense that they are discontinued. Which coil spacers are going to give me that .5-1"? Are they the daystars?

Would he want to replace the needle bearing at this time, as well? I'm not as familiar with 1st gens and vibe issues.

yes the fat constant rate coil springs are for 5lugs, 6lug springs are noticably diffrent. Ik moog makes many coils, i think 81070 in the part number. Im not 100% sure. I will actually be selling my v6 s runner coils in the near future when i swap in my doestch
@NMTrailRider this is what a 5lug looks like from the spindle forward. When doing a spindle lift you replace the spindle everything after that you can either replace with all new stuff if needed or just reuse all the oem parts. Disclaimer this is not an actual picture of a tacoma but has all the same parts
