Forgot about that. Agreed, the sight is great on the XDS. Also comes with another fiber optic tube to change the color if you don't like the red already installed in it.

I have 2 full 9m, a MOD.2 and a subcompact 9. I love Springfield. Very accurate gun that I've never had jam up on me.

I own a Shield 9 mm and a couple of Springfield XD models, but neither is a compact. Either one is a worthy choice that I would trust my life to without thinking twice. The biggest drawback for many is the grip safety on the XD line, but it doesn't bother me at all. Be prepared for your buddy to use this evidence:

Isn't there a big sale going on with S&W right now? Thought I saw M&P's going for like $300ish new. Seems like a good deal.

There is a $75 rebate on Shields right now. I picked one up a few weeks ago at my local gun store for $250 after rebate...

Just ordered a Shield 9mm. Anyone recommend a solid OWB holster?

Good question. I'm in the same boat. I grabbed a sticky holster while I research a good OWB holster for my shield.

I went with the DeSantis dual carry II. $21 on Amazon. It is an OWB and got good reviews.

Check out Bagerstate holsters, I bought one for a Walther PPS 2, for IWB and it is well made and I picked it up for under $40, they make OWB and 2 styles of IWB

I'm a dealer and have owned just about everything out there. My personal opinion of the Springfield is that its an unholy abomination. They are hard to work on, and I don't mean field stripping it I mean taking it down to component parts. You will break your sight tool changing the sights on them and the aftermarket is OK at best but it is getting better.

The Smith & Wesson is better to work on and has better aftermarket support. The Apex trigger is a must in any M&P pistol.

If you want the Tacoma of handguns I'll give you a hint, It starts with a G and ends with a lock. They are simple to work on and if you want aftermarket stuff the sky is the limit. There are sexier guns out there but if you want reliability the Glock is king.

That's ALL personal preference. I have a full size M&P and the XDS 3.8 but my wife prefers the Shield. It feels too small for my hands so it's a no go for me. The Shield does shoot well though

Is that an APEX trigger? If so how do you like it and how hard was it to install? Looking to add one to my Shield at some point. Love the gun but not a fan of the hinged trigger.

Yes it is. I really like it. It is a lot better than the stock trigger just takes some getting used to at first. Could not tell you about the install as I let a professional handle that. Love my Shield!!

I have the XDS 9mm and my dad has a Shield 9mm. I find them to be both pretty comfortable to carry. Shooting I think that the Shield is a little more snappy because it is a little bit lighter weight then the XDS. Can't really go wrong with either one but if I had to choose I'd go XDS.

I have a M&P Shield and my friend has a XDS. I liked shooting the shield a lot more but my shield is a 9mm and his XDS was a 45 so I guess it's kinda like comparing apples to oranges but I did prefer the shield and not just because it was mine lol

I'm still feeling out my Shield. The trigger feels like crunchy cartilage. Way different than most everything else I've shot and the only trigger like that among my stuff. Granted, most of my stuff is long guns and predates the Carter presidency.
