    Hey guys,

Dont have a prinsu but would like to add a tray to my OEM racks to install a plano box for recovery gear but still want to use the ski racks for the fishing poles. Anyone know of a tray that is only about 2' wide that can attach to the OEM roof racks?IMG_4028.jpg

I wanted a narrow basket I could run next to my cargo box or kayak so after seeing some other examples on-line, I grabbed a cargo carrier from Harbor Freight. My initial plan was just to bolt the two sections together then weld some plates to it for mounting bolts. As is typical though I couldn't leave well enough alone and I decided to add eight inches into the center. It's no Baja Rack or even Yakima but I'll touch up a few of the welds and it'll serve my occasional needs fine for under $60 (some extra bolts, a stick of 3/4" tubing, etc). When I'm done I'll still be able to unbolt the parts and use them as a hitch hauler if I ever needed to.

They just had them on sale for $39 w/ coupon. There are folks who have bought two of their ATV racks and bolted them together as well. Several examples on Pirate and Mud.

ETA- They've also got an aluminum version for $75 that look a lot like your front hauler. It looks like it would be very simple to cut the side supports down to make it lower profile.

If you are just using a Plano box just bolt it directly to the cross bars, Yakima makes or used to at least a small wire mesh basket

I dont mind just bolting to the cross bars but would probably need some adapter kit to attach to the cross bars dont want to just drill a hole thru the cross bar?

I used U-bolts from Lowes to wrap around (under...) my cross bars and drilled a few holes in the base of the case to mount it. No drilling to vehicle required. Only question is whether the length of the case covers the spread bar to bar.

I do have a Prinsu, but the concept is the same.

I'm still working on it actually. I've got everything ready to go, just need to use my uncle's welder tomorrow or Saturday. As seem to be the norm with me, I took what would have been a quick and simple project and made it more complicated. :anonymous:

Harbor Freight has the racks on sale again this weekend for $39. I got my welding done but it's been too cold to paint so everything's on hold right now. I changed my mounting idea a little as well so that's also holding me up.
