2018 Tacoma, only 400 miles and already back at the dealership...With the hood up...

First time posting, been creeping on the forum for a bit while we looked at buying a new Tacoma. Looking for some advice, potential diagnoses, and any luck people have had with Toyota after similar issues.

As the title implies my wife and I recently took the dive on a new 2018 Off Road, Double Cab with the Tech and Premium package. We ordered it November 27th and waited a long 3 months before picking it up on February 21st. Yesterday, I was ready to post about how much I loved this rig, about all the money I was ready to drop on getting it prepped for its first summer in Alaska. Today, it is at the dealership, hood up with a slew of technicians with their heads buried deep.

Thursday night my wife was backing into our driveway when the truck "just died". Below are pictures of the codes it threw. I restarted the truck took it for a good drive and noticed no problems with it. I chalked it up to a fluke, potentially a loose electrical connection but at the wife's insistence we followed up with Kendall Toyota the next morning. Service guy ran the VIN found no outstanding recalls or TSBs and pretty much said "nothing we can do unless we can see the code in person." He promised to pass it along to a Service Manager after I mentioned my many years of driving in reverse with no issue until this truck. They didn't call back, not surprised.

Side note - Kendal in Alaska is horrid, I have bought 3 vehicles from them an F-150, and Audi S4 and now a Tacoma and now all 3 have been back in for service within 2 weeks. Not necessarily their fault but their customer care is atrocious, I won't go into depth but I have a deep distrust of their Service Department. Also note: Kendal is the ONLY local Toyota Dealership, and quickly becoming the ONLY Dealership period in AK.

Jump to today, we drove the truck all day around town with zero issues. Ready to head home and it throws another code and the check engine light turns on, also the TRAC OFF light turns on... Weird right? Doesn't show any screens like the ones from Thursday. We happen to be 2 minutes away from Toyota and decide to head right to the service department. Below there is a video of it running extremely rough. Truck does the same thing after turning it off and starting again. The service guys are perplexed said it threw an "internal engine code" but wouldn't tell me anything else. Anyone have any guesses????

TLDR - Thursday: Truck died while backing up driveway and threw some codes. Saturday: Check engine light comes on and truck runs terribly, also TRAC OFF light turned on, and wouldn't go back off.

I get that a few of those codes are probably due to the engine being off when the ignition is on. Check Charging System - Alternator isn't working. Low Oil Pressure - Engine isn't running probably zero oil pressure. Fair assumptions??

The only one that truly worries me is the High Transmission Fluid Temperature.

I had this happen once. If you hit the brake and gas at the same time it will do something very similar.

Not saying that this is or isn't the case....but the results were similar.

They aren't still sending out transmissions without/or with low fluid are they?

I am sure it is still possible to have a bad sensor here and there.

They promised to call a service manager when you told them your history of driving in reverse?

Sounds like a timing issue to me.

Like many have mentioned, have them check the CPS.

Gotta be frustrating with a new truck. Hopefully it’s the CPS or something easily diagnosed.

Pretty standard Alaska. Places know they are the only option and you can’t go anywhere else. Their prices and customer service reflects the lack of caring at all.

Seems like the consensus, I thought I had been watching the forums but I hadn't heard this was a chronic problem. Thanks everyone, we'll see if the Service Department ends up at the same conclusion... I assume it's an easy fix? I'll do a little searching and read up!

Seriously, thank you all for the quick responses, I knew a thread with problems on a 2018 would get some traction but you all are top-notch. I'll be sure to have them check into CPS issues.
A joke... the service guy was trying to play it off like it was a non-issue. I reminded him that I'd put trucks in reverse and backed them up my driveway for years and never had this problem until now. He then promised to get me a call from their Service Manager, as I was clearly not willing to hang up and play along.

^^This. I hope someone important at Toyota sees this thread and takes a peek into their representation in Alaska.

Just keep fighting the dealer till it's fixed. It's a new truck, they need to fix it.
