I’ve narrowed my new guitar choice down to these two. Before it starts, I know the “real” Stratocaster and SG are much better choices, my bank account says get the Squire or Epiphone though.
Anybody have any pros or cons? I am familiar with the Squier line but not so much with the Epiphone SG though.

If I could sell some woodworking projects, I might just do that.

Made a bunch of stuff black.
My personal opinion is SG. Everybody and they're dog buys a Squier Strat. Plus I like the shape of the SG better. Just my $0.02.

I bought a Squire Strat to keep my adult son and his pals from beating up my good guitars including a nice USA Telecaster...funny thing the Squire feels and plays nicer than the rest and I sort of hate that it does.

I also have an Epiphone ES 295 Scotty Moore replica that I love and hope to replace with the same Gibson real deal someday, but first I want to install a low profile winch bumper from US Offroad.

find a used Made in Mexico Fender Strat, much nicer and shouldn't break the bank. SGs are fun, but cheaper ones tend to have a balance issue (the neck will dive when you're playing standing with a strap).

An SG over a Strat ? Hella no fellas ! I have a few high dollar guitars that I'll never sell, but I also have my "Pawnshop series" that I love to buy, sell, trade, and modify into beasts that will scream alongside their American line...It's fun as hell, and I'm always looking for the oldest and ugliest.

CNC machines have taken a lot of the sketch work out of guitar construction now days, especially in the lower price point range. Really comes down to whether you like apples or oranges. It's not hard to find a good playing, decent, 'cheap' guitar anymore. What flavor....?
There's a guitar thread here that's pretty active, you might want to check out.

I prefer the SG but I prefer humbuckers. If budget is limited you should do what I do. I got a Sweetwater Credit card and when I purchase they typically have 24-40 months no interest. I then pay a little each week and it is paid off before interest kicks in. You may be able to get a better version of a strat or SG. You just have to hit them at the right time when they are doing the special interest free deals.

Really comes down to humbuckers vs single coil.

    I like humbuckers myself.

I remember when I started I didn't realize there were manufacturers besides Fender and Gibson. I'm sure you do, but can I throw some others into the mix for your consideration? I started with 2 Squiers, moved through 3 Kramers and wound up with an ESP that I am in love with. Maybe have a look at Ibanez, LTD (ESP) and Schecter? I saw some decent looking used Ibanez models at my local store for around $200.
