I'm thinking about grabbing one of these with some tax refund money. Although, I'm concerned that this might suck in water. Do you think this would make the truck more susceptible to water issues with offroad minor water crossings than the stock airbox?

I doubt it unless you are gonna run the truck up to the hood water. Pretty sure you are safe up to the bumper.

    I don’t have one so I couldn’t tell ya.

I’ve decided on TRD with an aFe dry filter when I can find one on sale.

I wonder if I can get any horsepower gains with a few of their stickers on my truck ?

Just kidding.....I do like the CAI sound....and the exhaust sounds, too. Reason enough for me to the do it when I have the spare cash to do so.

Has anyone (or is it possible) paired this with a safari snorkel?

Have you heard a comparison with K&N's Air Charger? I have one in my Tacoma and the sound is terrible! It is loud, but not in a good way. I was thinking of changing to the AFE setup you have.

I haven't heard a comparison, but the AFE is LOUD (throaty revs) at 3800 through 4200 RPM. I really like the sound when I get on the pedal, but my wife does not enjoy it during the hour long drives to the mountains - I may end up swapping it out - happy wife/happy life and all that.

The filter cover box still connects to the same intake hole from the passenger side wheel fender. It will probably require making a custom connection from snorkel to aFe box, but I'm sure it will work with a little fine tuning.

I may try it one of these days...

Update to above: I installed my snorkel and ended up deleting the aFe CAI. Certainly could have joined the CAI with the snorkel with off the shelf parts, but decided on a quieter ride.

Reviving an old thread here because I'm curious if you still think that it makes a difference? Looking to squeeze some more power out of the engine and considering everything possible, even the stuff that typically gets hate. Just minus a supercharger cause of cost

I had it installed - 1st mod on my truck actually - not sure if there was a difference in power, but it sounded mean. I ended up getting an OVTune and removed it so the truck was quieter on long trips through the mountains. Any real difference I've noticed throughout the many mods has been the OVTune. Hands down the best for the money.

    I didn't use them together.

I tuned my truck, added Dynamat to the cabin and under the hood and removed the aFe at the same time. Moved to a quieter ride in preparation for road trips a few summers ago. Everyone is a critic and/or engineer when it comes to mods and my thinking is this: Do what makes you happy.

Bro, there are tons of independent unaffiliated shops that have thrown CAI modded Tacos on a dyno and showed the results on YouTube. That would be people completely disconnected from Toyota - as in people with no vested interest other than their content generating views.
What you’re missing is the company has to meet an emissions standard across the brand and the model in order to produce/sell cars in the US. A CAI often causes a vehicle to be emission non compliant (state based - see also and most often: California) so yeah, they DO give you performance gains, but at the cost maybe being out of compliance with state emissions standards.

Lol look and see where their "increase" in power is. It is at WOT only. So if you floor it, you get a little bit increase. When towing or hauling? Nothing.
