head-unit upgrade question for 2012 DC LB TRD Sport

I think I have most of what I need figured out, but I'm a bit confused on the satellite tuner to OEM shark fin antenna connection. Below is what I am thinking of going with and my truck info:

2012 TRD Sport DC LB - non-JBL system

• New Head-unit = Pioneer AVH-2330NEX
• Dash Kit = Scosche TA2111BPB (after reading reviews, decided not to go with Metra)
  
• To Keep Factory steering wheel controls = iDatalink
  $138 Maestro ADS-MRR Universal Radio Replacement and Steering Wheel Interface
  Maestro ADS-MRR & iDatalink HRN-RR-TO1
• To Keep Factory USB port = Axxess
  $9 AX-TOYUSB - USB-Auxilliary Retention Harness - USB adaptor to retain the OE USB in select Toyota vehicles

• To Keep Factory Aux port = I believe the maestro wire harness listed above will take care of this
  
• Video parking break bypass = MicroBypass Parking Break Switch
• SiriusXM Tuner =

• To Keep Factory Satellite Antenna = This is where I'm a bit confused as to what I need. The goal is to make use of the existing OEM shark fin satellite antenna.

I read through some threads on here and I'm not sure if the antenna plugs directly in to the stock head-unit or if the connector is in the kick panel near the driver side footrest.

If it plugs in to the stock radio, from what I understand I'll only need a small cable that converts the Toyota plug to what will work with the satellite tuner. Maybe something like the iDatalink Maestro cable ADS-HRN-ANT-SAT1. Not sure if that cable will work though

If it is the connector in the kick panel (near the drivers side footrest), then I think I'll need one of the following cables:

1. $60 SFA12F Shark Fin Antenna Adapter, SFA12F
   SFA12F (Toyota/Lexus Shark Fin antenna Adapter, Female)
   
2. $60 SFA12M Shark Fin Antenna Adapter, SFA12M
   SFA12M (Toyota/Lexus Shark Fin antenna Adapter, Male)

If someone can clarify what is needed for making use of the OEM shark fin satellite antenna, I'd greatly appreciate it. Also, I'm open to feedback on the head-unit. Trying to stay under $400 for the HU and still get Apple Car Play, Android Auto, and HD Radio.

That is a fantastic unit for the money. As for that antenna connection I’m not sure about yours but on mine it’s at the radio and you can use the sat1. I’m sure someone will chime in

 

@Do58...from what I read, the connection is different on 2013 and up so that may be why it worked for you. I'm struggling to find out the correct connector type for the 2012.

Actually.... yes you can use the sat1 but MANY times when I retain the fact sat antenna and it’s behind the radio, you can remove the FAKRA connector and plug that into the v300. Save the money on the sat1. It makes it easy to use it but honestly easy either way.

 

@Do58, not sure I'm following. Can I use that SAT1 cable, think it was only around $15 so I don't mind buying it. Really hoping that this is the solution cause it seems super easy.

 

Let’s make this easy and do process of elimination. Go to the truck pop out the ac controls and then you will see 4 10mm bolts holding the metal radio brackets. Unscrew them and the radio pops out. Let’s see what we have to work with

I don't think I can use the SAT1 cable from iDatalink, not sure though.

Based off the above pic, I believe the small blue connector on the upper right of the first photo is the cable for the factory satellite sharkfin antenna. If that is the case, I think the following cable may work if I am understanding the description correctly.

Any updates on this? I am getting ready to put in a new head unit this weekend and trying to get all the right cables together before I dive in.

 

was traveling this week, sorry for the delay in responding.

I completed the install a couple of weeks ago and everything works great. Can't stress enough how happy I am with the system and the improvement to the overall sound even with stock speakers. I will most likely at some point upgrade the stock speakers, but I am quite happy at the moment with the functionality and sound.

Couple of notes about the install:
1.) One thing I will note is that the installation was pretty straight forward, but the hardest part was putting the stereo back in the dash after adding the iDatalink wiring harness and the satellite tuner.
2.) The Axxess USB adapter that allows you to retain use of the factory USB port does not plug in behind the radio. This confused me at first, until I found out where it connects. It connects to a wire that is terminated behind the glove box, just be aware of that so you don't waste time like I did.
3.) There will be a couple of factory plugs that aren't used with the aftermarket wiring harness and stereo. Don't worry about it, just set them aside.
4.) Make the wiring harness connections before the install. I took the new Kenwood harness and the iDatalink harness and made the connections the night before the install. Was much easier to do this with it laid out on a table, as opposed to doing it in the dash of the truck.

Below is a list of the parts I used for the install, I'll try to take a couple of pics later.

Radio = Kenwood DDX9704S
Dash Kit = Scosche TA2111BPB (I didn't like the reviews for the Metra dash kit, so I went with the Scosche, more expensive but I like it)
Maestro = iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR (this allows you to retain steering wheel controls and add a couple other features)
Maestro wiring harness = iDatalink Maestro HRN-RR-TO1
SiriusXM Satellite Tuner = SiriusXM SXV300v1
