Thank you guys so much for the post, helped out quite a bit. Definitely the scariest install of my life but it worked out well.

I read and re-read this entire thread a million times over the past year or so. I finally decided to sack up and go for it. Turns out, the install was way easier than I had imagined in my head, and I did it alone.

I need to flip that front deflector. The logo being backwards is already driving me nuts.

Looks great. I think the most daunting thing is to drill holes in your new truck. Having done it a few times now on my own truck as well as on a few other trucks, it definitely gets easier. It's not rocket surgery.

Hell, I just got a new Softail and immediately took it home disassembled it and started cutting things off it...

What size rivnuts is in the double cabs that the OEM racks bolt to ? I may be buying one of these PrinSu racks if this cut down version I just cut in half doresn't work for me. But I just got it today and cut it so I have to try to use it first. Just wondering what is standard for them to bolt to. Thanks, and the PrinSu racks look great. Ammit !

Standard is M6, but since you'll be drilling and adding your own rivnuts, you can use whatever size you want really. Good luck with your project. Be sure to post pics once you're done- I'd be curious to see what you come up with.

Man, I got to reading this thread at 10:00 last night, I finally jumped ahead around 3:00 a.m. It is addictive to start reading these threads. I cut them OEM racks and clamped 3/8 square alum stock in the joints and then poured a little of that advertised Flex Seal, once I am sure it all will fit I am going to use some permanent Epoxy with some fiber or something from the shop. Not sure the airbag thing is a problem with the OEM racks but I might try to drop the headliner just in case.

I am getting close to purchasing this but have a measurement question,

Can a set of MaxTrax be stored with the pin set via the stock bars that come with the unit or am I going to need to purchase an additional bar to have the spacing I need.

    Make sense?

    TIA,
    GB

10-22, I think I have my answer by looking closer at this pic...

So your using two cross bars for the front and rear support and the remaining can be slid forward or back in their respective slotting locations?

All the crossbars are adjustable fore and aft. The mounting feet for the rack are an integral part of the siderails and it is not necessary to have a crossbar immediately above them. Ideally, you'd want a crossbar at the furthest attachment points fore and aft for "boxing" purposes, but they are not fixed in that location if your setup requires them to move as well. The smart design of the Prinsu allows you to have as few or as many crossbars as you'd like. The extremes of that statement are that you can have only two crossbars to create a perimeter frame rack or have the entire rack occupied by crossbars, making a solid platform if you so desire.

It’s been several years now for this thread has anyone experienced any updated leakage after install? I saw one guy on here had some but was wondering about others. I guess how are they holding up after years on the truck.

Of the 4 installs I have personally done, I only had one with a small leak (it was the first one BTW). Easy correction though. The thing about using Permatex Gasket maker (as opposed to standard household silicone) is that once it dries, it's set. It does not shrink or deteriorate and since there are no moving parts to the rack, there really shouldn't be any need to mess with it after initial install. I started this thread in 03/16 and the owner of the truck still hasn't had any problems or leaks with his rack.

    I'm in Southern California.

As daunting as the task is, it honestly isn't that difficult. It's more about getting over the mental hurdle of "I hope I don't mess anything up.", but that can be said about most modifications to our trucks. I'm sure you can find someone local that would be willing to help with this.
