Input needed: Ingersoll Rand air compressor overland trailer build... Maybe....

My only worry is that the taco springs will be too weak to hold any real weight. I'm trying to keep costs down wherever I can. I'm already going to spend about $200 on 6x5.5 5200lbs hubs with drum brakes. I have 3 17" 2nd gen 4runner rims that I'll be mounting 265 70 17 load range E ko2's onto, plus brake controller. Don't really want to have to buy springs now too. I may look for a scrap yard and see what I can find. Some guys have used front jeep springs with success.

 

The excavator buckets are HEAVY, this trailer was 8 ish years old.

IMO if your taking this off road leaf springs would be a better choice due to flex and simplicity and repair in the field and on the road.

From the feedback I'm getting I'm leaning towards a spring setup.

just remember you will have to cut and modify most any axle you put in this trailer.

you might be better off just buying the stub axle and making your own


Edit it would be cheaper to buy this one that is on sale and section it in the center and slide a tight fitting oversize pipe and weld it to the required width.

 

I'm looking at these + new axle and my stock Tacoma springs

I want to be able to swap out tires between the truck and trailer.

 

Nice find! I have a little trailer that I could swap the hubs out....didnt even think to use Amazon for that.

only thing I would worry about is the centerbore..I dont think it would be an issue as our trucks have a huge centerbore on the rims, and im sure the centerbore on that is smaller to accommodate chevy's.

Like I say though I don't think it would be an issue since these are probably smaller to accommodate smaller center bore's of other sized wheels. You may need cone style nuts to centre the wheels on the studs...

 

I have a full set of extra lugs.... I hope the fit the new hub.

Yup. I wanted to charge through the alternator for when I need to run high draw tools off the inverter. Decided to just use booster cables when necessary.

 

Robot butt plugs. Weld on.

 

They are weld on zip tie loops. Weld them on and you can mount a zip tie anywhere.

Updates....
7 pin wiring done with all new wire.

I realized I need a tool trailer more than an off road trailer, so I put it back together with just a plywood back for now. Bought some trailer lights from princess auto and removed all the casing to bring them down to 2/3 the original size.
Loaded the tools and everything fit fucking perfectly. Easy access on both sides.

She's a little bumpy so I think the suspension is shot. If and when I replace I'll be going with these

It's a little difficult to maneuver in reverse but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I decided not to do a drop down gate on the rear. Instead I'll be doing a tire carrier mount.
