Question for you all that installed a newer unit. I'm looking at upgrading from a 2 year old Pumpkin unit which is very similar. What is the boot time of these newer ones? Mine is around 25-30 seconds which is getting pretty old, and you need to close the radio app in order to swap to another audio input. If not, you'll get both inputs playing simultaneously. Has this been resolved? I'm shopping between the Joying, Atoto, and a new Pumpkin unit.

I usually have my unit in sleep mode after turning off the ignition. My unit comes up in a few seconds from sleep mode. If you choose the option for the unit to shut off every time, the boot time time is about 10 sec. You do not have to close the radio app to choose another input. I usually use my steering wheel mode control button to cycle between inputs: radio, music player, BT, video player, and usb video input. I have the 7" head unit here:

I looked it up, but didn't see anything. Is sleep mode a setting somewhere on these units?

Yes. You have to get into the "Setup" app then hit "Factory Settings" using the factory password. I believe all the Joying units have a common "3368" factory pw. There will be a sleep mode when ACC off selection available. In sleep mode it boots up in a few seconds after turning ignition.

I just installed an ATOTO A62721PB. It boots up in a second or two.

First post on the site. I used a lot of the resources here to guide me on the install of my Joying unit, so I thought I’d return the favour and share my results. I installed in a 2010 TRD 6-Speed Double Cab.

I purchased the newest Joying 8” Octa Core 4GB RAM unit direct from their website. It took a while to arrive, but I think most of that time was waiting for the product to actually be released (I pre-ordered it). It showed as an Android 6.0 version on their site, and I was hoping to be able to upgrade it at some point, but when it arrived it was already upgraded to 8.0. I also ordered the universal Toyota wiring harness from Joying, not the Hilux one. I got dinged for about $30 duty on delivery.

I followed some YouTube videos on how to uninstall the factory unit. I purchased some plastic pry bars from Amazon that were quite helpful . Taking out the unit after popping the plastic pieces off was very easy. Four bolts and un-attaching the wiring harnesses. Taking out the clock/hazard button piece was a bit finicky, but eventually popped out.

I bought the Scosche dash kit, which I was happy with. The fit was good, and the colour matched the plastic to either side. Note, there are different grey options for this dash kit.

I also bought the pieces necessary to extend the USB and aux-in to one of the blank buttons below the stereo: Plug and 3.5mm to RCA adapter.

Install was fairly straight forward, only a couple of notes. 1.) the Joying Toyota wiring harness had one less plug than the factory one. But I have yet to come across any functions that don’t work on the new unit, including steering wheel controls. My guess is the extra plug on the factor harness was for the factory aux-in. 2.) There is not a lot of extra room for the wiring behind the new unit. I had to re-arrange the birds nest a few times and still it was a snug fit.

I ran the Bluetooth mic under the dash and up inside the A-pillar, along the headliner where it meets the windshield and clipped it on the headliner beside the rear-view mirror. This YouTube video will guide you if you need help removing the A-pillar cover: https://youtu.be/yC88hp_vYng.

I don’t think I’m going to attempt the rear-view camera display to the head unit. The complexity vs. reward isn’t there for me.

I’m overall pretty happy with the result. Although I’m still figuring a lot out, the Joying unit has a lot of functionality that I like. I’ve downloaded a good sized chunk of Google Map to use offline and Spotify to use on my phone’s hotspot. I’ve also downloaded EasyConnection to mirror my phone.

The one outstanding issue I have is that my phone and the head unit will not automatically connect via Bluetooth when I start the truck. I’ve been going back and forth with Joying support on whether this is achievable, or not, but no solution as of yet.

To address some other concerns I’ve seen on this forum:

    1) The bootup time is not insignificant. I just timed it and it took 35 seconds. When your running around, jumping in and out of your truck, it can get a tad annoying. I haven’t been able to find a setting to add a sleep mode for short periods as some have mentioned with other units.

    2) The GPS reception is fine. Not great, but not bad either. I mounted the GPS antenna directly on top of the metal housing of the head unit. It just seems to lag ever so slightly and is not pinpoint accurate sometimes during directions. But it hasn’t made me miss a turn or anything like that.

    3) The wifi reception is a bit weak. Connecting to my house network, the download speed is pretty slow. However, if I switch it to my phones hotspot, it’s pretty quick. So, if you can get close to your house’s router, I’m sure it would be quick as well (I also have a brick house, which doesn’t help).

Overall, it’s a great unit for the price and I would do it over again after knowing what I know now. IMG_20180425_185048.jpg IMG_20180425_185116.jpg IMG_20180425_185014.jpg

    Nice write-up.

Your unit should have a sleep mode...coming out of sleep mode when I start the truck, it only take a couple of seconds to come on. I will look tomorrow to see where the sleep mode setting is, but I think it is the device settings page.

My phone bluetooth connects automatically...I think on your phone you have to tell it to remember the headunit.

Why did you run a bluetooth mic? I just use the mic that's internal to the unit itself.

Thanks. Would love to know where you found that setting. I thought I searched thoroughly, including under the Factory settings.

There's definitely something wrong somewhere with my phone/head unit Bluetooth connection. I have it remembered in my phone. But, in order for the head unit to connect to the phone, I have to search for available devices and choose my phone. Every time. I don't think the issue is my phone, as I have plenty other things it automatically connects to without issue.

Good question regarding the mic. I didn't really put much thought into it. Installing beside the mirror seemed easy and pretty clean. I guess I just assumed it would give me superior voice quality.

My sleep mode setting is located in the Factory Settings where you use the password to get in and change it. I would contact Joying...I think my unit 2GB/32GB PX5 7" screen is different than yours. Mine wake from sleep mode in 1-2 sec.

I installed a carjoying hu US-JY-UL135N2 in 2017. Been fairly happy with it. Anyone found a way for the unit to read my txt msgs out loud like my wife's new ascent?

After trying 3 iterations of these units I punched out and went kenwood.
I think the concept is great, I just wish they'd spend a little more on components and charge a little more.
I'd pay double for a good quality unit in this style.
The last unit was slow, froze all the time and was overall a piece of s***
