I recently purchased a used Leer 100r with out a rack thinking I could piece a Thule setup off of craigslist. Well I thought wrong and it appears that it’s a smooth $500 for a new setup with tracks and all. Before I drop this kind of cash are there any other options? I’m just looking to be able to carry two kayaks laying flat and maybe a bike up there sometimes too. And if it helps I have a OEM rack already.

You can buy the tracks for the rack and then watch Craigslist for a used rack. It's hard to beat the versatility of a Thule setup.

I just snagged a rack from a 2000 4Runner and bolted it on to my canopy. Works like a champ.

I prefer Yakima, just because. I have had great luck with the traditional round rods and prefer them greatly. Their various accessories are top notch and this going back to the 80s. I carry bicycles, and kayaks, the Rocket tube and so much more and often hundreds of miles.

I initially was going with Yakima but I’m just concerned with the saddles rotating as I’m trying to get a boat on top. Any problems with this?

If they're tightened down that shouldn't be an issue.

No because I use the Boat Loader thing and go in from the side when carrying two kayaks. I use the Yakima J type, what they now call the J-Hook most of the time. I also load, when carrying a single kayak, from the rear and use the Hand-Roll and Deck-Hand combo. Actually I find the ability of the accessories to find their own happy spot on the round bars a positive rather than being locked into one position by virtue of the support bar shape.

Do you already have tracks on your camper shell? I have a Thule rack that came on a shell I bought recently that I have no use for. I also have Shell Racks in stock if you're looking for a more sturdy solution (link below). Tacoma World members get 5% off at checkout also with code "TW5".

    I added a bolt once...
Can confirm, Thule is Swedish for "Expensive"... but I've been pretty happy the past 8 years with the set up

Hey Gage thanks for the reply. My ARE V-series came without tracks so I'm in the market for tracks and a rack. Can you tell me about the Thule rack that you mentioned not having a use for?
