Dang, that's what I thought, but thanks for confirming it for me. Once I started think that this was possible, I wanted to immediately order a HU with the Meastro just to get it working. lol oh well, this now helps give me some more patience in figuring out what I want to do with the HU. Plus, it lets me put my money into something else first. :D

Other than retaining the steering wheel functions and reading the tire pressures and engine info, does it give you any other control or functionality beyond the audio stuff?

Yup, pretty much monitors everything from the Truck Computer. It's awesome.

Is it possible to still connect that OBDII cable and get more data? Not sure why they show it as unused on the 2016+ Tacomas.

    Looks great,
Couple questions if you don't mind. I've never dealt with idatalink before and the amount of wires, harnesses, adapters is a huge intimidating puzzle.

Thank being said, it seems pretty straight forward, is it more plug n play with the vehicle specific kit or is there any sodering/splicing required?

I've already flashed my module, but taking some time to read and research as much as I can before I pull the install trigger. Couldn't find any install videos, if anyone has please share.

    Thanks!

Why do people put 6x9 speakers in the fronts when they are doing an aftermarket sub?

What do you mean? For me I didn't want to cut the truck up in case I wanted to go back to stock at some point. They make plenty of 6x9s that can take good power and sound decent.

So it is pulling OBDII data. Just hooks in differently. Actually had to figure out how to disable it to get my transmission flashed as it was causing an issue. There is a setting to disable it so the techs tool would flash properly. You can even clear codes from the HU.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

This is great. I got a loaner Carolla with car play and loved it. I'm wondering if all the data you get is because of the Kenwood or because of the Meastro. Can you get it on other HU, like Sony, Alpine, ect?

Also, does the little screen between the gauges still work?

    Thanks~

Try adding a cover over the vents that still allows air flow. I used yoga mats as my decoupling layer, and spray glued these yoga mat scraps to the stick on deadening I applied to the back wall. No noise from the vents now. Not shown in the pic is the yoga mat decoupling layer and the 1/4" MLV layer. 20180602_180200.jpg

Was just curious. My understanding always was if u are adding an after market sub u are better off to do circular speakers in front for better sound quality. 6x9s were more for if u don't have an after market sub but need something. Noticed quite a few ppl on forum doing after market sub with 6x9s Upfront. Thought I might be missing something.

It is from the Meastro and yes the screen in the Dash still works. The Meastro works with a bunch of different HU's.

About to go ham nuts on the audio equipment.
My tacoma has the stock nav. Its junk but I love how the navigation info is displayed on the screen by the speedometer. Does idatalink display any nav info(android auto Google maps) on that screen?

What exactly makes you think a circular speaker provides better sound quality that an oval speaker? Or in the case of the kicker L7, a square speaker?

So I am not sure. For me it added the screen to my center console. However, my truck did not have nav. Mine opened the menu option but does not show anything.
