Dang, that's crazy. I still don't know how I survived riding in Tampa and Orlando.

Well to be honest I can say my wife didn’t enlist but she played a very important part so I can have worry free deployments. So in a way she did. I can go on forever how she contributed but I don’t want to. If you where ever in my shoes you would understand. However you are entitled to your opinion. Don’t take it the wrong way bud. It’s all good.

Wow...had not heard those stats yet. Crazy...I love my bike, but life is higher on the list. It would be interesting to find out more about these incidents... Is it irresponsible riders, or the cage drivers? I guess I'll be doing some research at work tomo...not gonna spend my off day looking into that.

I stopped riding early last summer. Bikes have been for sale for almost a year now.

Yeah that too. The only way I'll get another street bike is by moving to a small town.

I completely understand it's extremely difficult for a spouse and you're lucky to of had her support. And I was in your shoes, though she left me while I was overseas the first time. Ha. I just find it funny how she said said it is all

Even the 600 I think is to much for me at this point. I am going to get something less crazy like a 300 of some kind. I dont care about what people think regarding that part, I just wanna learn safely and regarding other drivers that is something to take into account. I am a very careful driver but cant stop someone else from being an idiot. I dont plan on riding everyday either.

Good idea.. i started on a 250 ninja... When they looked like they were built in the 60s. Now they look pretty pimp.

Too many people buy a big bike to look cool for others, and end up dead.

Have you taken a motorcycle course? Not sure if that's required in Colorado since i transferred my endorsement. But it's a good idea. Best takeaway was ride defensive like everyone is trying to kill you.

I can't really comment on that because my first bike was a 600. Even though I grew up riding it's still a whole different beast being on the street. If you respect your bike there's no reason not to start on a 600. Maybe an sv or something similar if you're worried about power. Just remember when buying a bike it's not IF you crash but WHEN you crash. It happens to everyone.

I second this...look for a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) course that you can attend. Not only is it very useful overall, but you can get your motorcycle endorsement without hassle.

After the course, go ahead and pick these up (and study them):

Thanks for all the info guys, I have not taken any classes yet but I will for sure. Safety is paramount for me. I will check out those books as well.

You have the right thought. 250 is just so small espcially at altitude. Look into a 2004 and newer sv650 you can get them for less than $3k they don't have the high horsepower of a sport bike but they have the low end grunt of a vtwin.
