    Kind of off topic here but related to techstream. When doing my logging for Matt I have been doing full pulls (1/4-1/2 mile runs,minus the hard launch) ;) through all the gears up to 4th gear. 4th gear pulls right to 5k rpm and about 105mph at which point it wont go any faster or turn any more rpms. I am assuming this is a speed governor within the ECU from the factory. Now for my question, is there a way to turn that off with tech stream (asking for a friend)....lol

    ETA these pulls are in addition to the pulls Matt requested.

    Nice. I did not get the new file yet but eager to try it out.

    Notice anything between the 3 test files?

    I've only been on the first (never for the second) but still like it.

    Well, the files I'm getting (I assume) are primarily to do with these issues:

    1. Stutters at part throttle, in a specific rpm range - 2000-3000. (So far that's fixed in all three);
    2. Coarse throttle control from idle - 1000rpm. You have to be suuuuper light on the gas to get any resolution in that range. Mostly the engine will jump right up to that speed. (ongoing);
    3. Rpm "blips" when trying to maintain a constant rpm, 1000-1400 range. You hold your foot in one spot, the rpm will jump like 100 rpm or so really fast and come back down fast (ongoing);

    2 and 3 are particularly annoying in 4lo and were not there in previous tunes including OEM AFAIK.

    I also induced what I call the "double bump surge" that happens when you're lifting, right at the point when you're transitioning from "on the gas" to feathered (not quite full lift).

    Before anyone freaks out, yes these things are happening on my truck and perhaps a few others.. maybe not on yours. If the changes are included in the next release and fix my symptoms and don't affect you, great. If they do affect you adversely, well maybe some more work is needed or you can stay with the file you like. Nobody is missing out, OK?!:)

    Interesting data. The timing advance appears to have a similar slope, just ~10 degrees more on the 91. Certainly shows how the power difference is developed.

    Im not sure how this explains the detonation people are getting on the 87 octane tune? Is 10 degrees more retard not enough to save from det? Is there a difference in partial throttle timing causing the 87 map to advance too far in the 2-3 K rpm band where people are getting the stutter and timing pulled?

    With the base Toyota 87 timing map, did you alter the VVT maps enough to cause an increase in compression/cylinder pressures? Could that have caused det on the stock Toyota timing map?

    Just trying to understand why the det is happening on the 87 tune with the same ignition map as stock (and not happening on a 100% stock tune).

    Not a customer yet, but am following closely to see if a stable 87 tune with no side effects develops.

    there is knock on the stock tune. The way the ignition works on these ECUs it will add and correct up to it's maximum allowed amount, and continually trim and learn.

    also not every vehicle logged on 87 had knock or excessive amounts of correction

    I must have a unicorn. I have yet to experience issues like these outside of poor shifting lol. I'm still curious to try the new test file, but the first one, which I'm currently on, feel good with 200 miles so far.

    Understand. I'm pretty sure that is similar for all modern ECUs in some embodiment. If the timing doesn't cause det (or predet...whatever) every once in a while, it isn't making the full power and combustion efficiency. So essentially it advances timing until some knock event threshold or the maximum learning value is reached right. All makes sense.

    I'm still trying to figure out what is different about the stock tune, where it isn't felt, and the 87 OVtune where some significant knock or knock correction was felt by many. Not looking for any proprietary info, just generalities on what you are finding currently and how you're fixing the issue (if you're ready/willing to share).

    I understand the stock ignition map looked rather rough from your previous 3D surface plots posted a long time ago, so I'm sure there is potential for goofy side effects. Curious if you are planning to smooth or otherwise improve the stock 87 ignition base map or if you're tweaking other parameters to mitigate the issue now.

    I guess the ultimate confirmation would be if Mat tells you and I that our logs really did show nothing horrendous like the other guy's logs lol

    Could that just be the vehicle responding to the terrain, etc....

    How much throttle response are you giving?

    I CANNOT believe you just posted that.

    When you see it bumping up and down like that, my foot is steady on the pedal. No one try and tell me it's an induced oscillation. It's not. I've had that happen to me on old 4X4's in rough terrain, sure. This was on a gravel road.

    It will also do it when I'm stopped in neutral and just trying to maintain a constant rpm.
