Mine was like that stock. I need to do this mod instead of pulling the fuse.

So, I just don't get why Toyota designed it like this so we have to hack the ECU.

Isn't 4 Lo for when you're stuck and want the tires to go real slow so you don't dig in, or you're going over something technical or slippery? Then, if ATRAC is disabled in 4Lo, what's the point of 4 Lo. Why would I want to go into a lower gear with less traction? I would think 4 Hi in 1st would be better then.

Is this just a marketing thing to disable an option in a cheaper build?

Looking for a little electrical help here...after a bunch of research and testing I can't seem to get my AOB switch to work for the ABS kill switch. I had wired up a simple spdt switch (split ABS green wire to switch terminals with a ground)and it worked great. Wanted to get fancy with a OEM-looking lighted AOB switch and can't seem to get it to work. This is how I have it wired.

Verified with a circuit tester, I get 12v to the switch which lights up when pressed. I also get 12v on the green wire leaving the switch and I can hear the relay click when pressed, which should open relay (30 & 87a) since its normally closed and disengage ABS, etc. but nothing happens.

I have 13' 2wd Sport with VSC. My dash lit up like a xmas tree with the spdt switch.

Any help would be really appreciated!

    I diagram looks correct.

Where are you breaking into the green wire?

Double check your relay electrically, to ensure it is working as you think it is.

My dash indicators light up when I turn off the ABS. Is that what you are seeing?

I cut the green abs wire a few inches from the connector and added extra length to each in order to reach the relay. I swapped 30 and 87a to see if that would work, but no luck. I double check the relay configuration again. I'm pretty sure I want it normally closed so the switch opens the relay and kills abs when activated.
My dash indicators lit up with the spdt switch but not the AOB.

Thanks. I'll keep messing around with it.

ATRAC is not disabled on 4lo. As a matter of fact you have to be in 4lo to use atrac.

I see you are in Simi Valley - I used to live in Thousand Oaks.

I miss-read your post about the dash lights - sorry. Yes, you want a normally closed relay.

First, I would swap the switch, checking the relay/ABS part of the circuit. Just use a basic on-off switch. Verify that part of the circuit works. If not, fix it. Otherwise, there is something wrong with the AOB switch. You can test the switch on the bench with a 12 volt supply.

Simi loves their trucks, however most of them are jacked so hight its ridiculous! lol

According to another owner, I don't have to use the relay and can just wire the abs wires through the switch and ground it. Only downside is that the switch light is always illuminated while the abs is normally engaged, but them goes off when you press the switch to disengage it. Wish it was the other way around. I still feel like the relay method should work though. The lower half of the switch was illuminating and sending 12v to the relay (audible click and verified with tester) when I pressed it when I had it hooked up like my diagram shows.

Thanks for you help. Going to try and test it tonight.

I have mine wired with an AOB switch and relay, similar to your wiring diagram.

Make sure each component works, and there are no shorts in your wiring. I know it's a PITA to find this kind of problem.

Curious if anyone has a similar config as me. I'm a 2005 SR5 so no LSD and no form of traction control whatsoever. Super basic truck, but would like to disable abs. Will the green wire mod work?

Can anyone verify whether or not this mod (ABS Kill Switch) works for a 3rd gen (2017) SR5?

I would like to do this to my 3rd gen Sport. Anyone confirm the light green wire is located in the same spot?

Looks easy enough. So this would keep ABS from interfering when driving off road? But you can turn it back on for street driving?
I remember my Tacomas brakes going crazy when going down soft sand hills. They couldnt decide what to do, all i wanted was for them to lock up.

Yeah, that’s the idea. Turn it off for the situations where you don’t want it (off road, snow) and then toggle it back on for normal driving. I have numerous situations where my ABS was going to be the death of me.

Down hill with all the weight is the sweet spot.
My brakes on my truck are weak, but they are reliably weak. It's horrible when you can't predict how the brakes are going to react in those situations.

Considering a kill switch after my abs kicked on while driving over a winding road.
I was warned about it happening prior to buying this truck. Just glad I had a firm grip on the steering wheel and no oncoming traffic.

I realize this post was sometime ago, but I am wondering why use the relay for the ABS kill switch mod?!..... the abs kill switch mod requires a switch to only open and close a circuit..... remember Clark Griswold ???
    upload_2018-7-14_8-17-6.jpg

Like some others that wanted an OEM looking switch, I too purchased the AOB "ABS Off" button and there are 4 wires to it. It does come with an instruction sheet that I could see causing some confusion. The pioneers of this mod used a basic spst switch.... which has 2 positions, on and off .....open or closed..
    upload_2018-7-14_8-47-45.jpg

The difference between the spst switch and the switch from AOB, the AOB has 4 wires....... 2 wires are for illuminating the led in the AOB switch and the other 2 wires are the actual spst switch.

    AOB ABS Off Switch
    upload_2018-7-14_8-58-3.jpg
The blue and black wires are just to illuminate the switch.... it is an LED so the wires must be hooked up with correct polarity. Should you decide you don't want to have the switch be lighted, simply do not hook up the blue and black wires, it will not effect the performance of the switch.
Black - hook to ground (chassis of vehicle)
Blue - hook to +12vdc that turns on when your dash lights turn on.... (possible connection point is to tap into the gear selector light shown below-use a volt meter to figure out which one is +)
Red- hook to end of cut green wire on taco
Green - hook to end of cut green wire on taco
(Switching the red and green wires will change whether or not the picture of the car on the switch lights up when pressed or just stays lit)

I have that switch and used a relay. The way you wired it, your ABS would actually be ON when the switch is pushed in and displaying "ABS OFF", right? The relay allows you to have the ABS turn OFF when the switch is pushed IN so the words on the switch line up with the function properly. If the switch just said "ABS" I would have wired it the way you did.
