I’m thinking of getting a high mileage tacoma with around 200k.

I was wondering though, are there certain mileage points where lots of repairs are done so if I got one that was over that point, it’d “technically” be in better condition than say one with less miles but without the repairs that would soon need to be done? Also if that were a thing, would it be smarter financially too?

I know that is a little confusing but hopefully someone will understand it be able to give me some advice.

I would only wonder about the transmission at that mileage (assuming the routine stuff has been done on time).

My 07 is approaching 190K. I have complete confidence in it, but it'd be harder for me to buy one with that many miles unless I knew the history. That is why I'm keeping it. It is worth more to me to keep it than most will pay at this point. And I can't blame someone from being concerned. As far as I know there isn't anything going out soon. But I can't guarantee that to a potential buyer and I'd probably feel just as bad as the guy I sold it to if something did go out shortly after selling it.

Other than tires, brakes, batteries, etc. I replaced the shocks at about 130K, the HVAC fan at about 160K, one U-joint at 170K and the alternator at about 180K. The alternator should have been the only expensive repair. I was 2500 miles from home when the U-joint went bad and I took it to a dealer who charged me nearly $300 for the repair. I could have had it done a lot cheaper at home.

    ARE camper shell.
    I just bought a 05 4.0 6speed with 170,000.
The price was great because my grandpa bought it from a Toyota dealship when they sent it to auction. The guy bought it new and traded it in on a brand new one I only bought it with 165,000 because my grandpa received services records for the truck from the dealer ship and it was 1 owner and I also have the paper work of the original owner when he sent is order fourm in for the truck. He had it services every 5,000 miles and fall service done to it. I have every service record since the truck had 8 miles on it so that’s sweet
Truck also has new frame at 150,000 so it’s spotless witch is a plus

I drove it for 5,000 miles now I just had to replace steering rack and the throw out bearing is bad.

I’m hoping to get well into then 200,000 hopefully I have luck with he head gaskets

Marshall r, I'm amazed that you have original front wheel bearings. Mine went around 100,000 and it seems a lot of Tacoma owners also replace theirs at somewhere in that range give or take a few thousand miles. Kudos to you

I have over 270k miles on my 06 and it still runs like a champ. About the only thing wrong is it needs new paint.

Oh okay thanks, I saw one listed on craigslist in Washington with 414,000. Definetly wouldn't go anywhere near 400,000 but I'm for sure debating buying one in the two's now.

Just check the maintenance records if you can. A well maintained Tacoma will last forever.

I had an 07 access cab with 177k and the only thing wrong with it was wheel bearings and probably started to need a new steering rack. Other than that it was a great truck.

I would say as long as maintenance was done you are probably fine.

Well that point doesn’t exist for any vehicle. Even if it did you could never trust the previous owner did what they needed to to maintain or fix the truck.

Depending on the care the truck rcvd, location, environment etc. different things will break at different points.

People have had to replace transmissions under 5,000 miles and others have gone 400k+ with the same transmission.

If I were you I would plan on doing all major fluid changes and replacing air filters right away on any used truck you get regardless. You can never trust a previous owner.

you will get 1 to 600k more miles out of it
no one can guarantee it more

    my motto is
Keep running it until repairs are higher than a monthly payments on a new one

I bought my 1995 F350 with 304k miles on it.

Yeah but 300k on a diesel is like 50k on a Tacoma LOL.

The international engine is quite an interesting engine. It will die out before you can kill a bearing from low oil with its HEUI injection system. Low oil means no injection since one little air bubble will make an injector not fire.
