I'm wondering if it's something wrong with the new amp they just came out with. Maybe some of them aren't getting the proper settings.

Maybe. I hope to get my replacement soon and see if it makes a difference. I will let you know. Thanks.

Damn I was seriously consider buying this set up until I read about your install troubles. I figured 1200 bucks for a sub amp and wiring harness the install components would be perfectly tailored for the job. @oemaudioplus are you guys addressing the issue with the wires and ground wire being too short and not allowing the drivers seat to fully slide back?

Lets not overreact, there are tons of people on here thrilled with their set up. I experienced tremendous customer service from these guys.. "if" there is an issue, they will take care of it..

Not overreacting...just trying to provide the membership with an honest review. I called out the excellent customer service, but the bottom line is that my installation did not go flawlessly, and the sound has not been perfect - really good, but not perfect.

As an update, I'm still getting the distortion with talk radio. Don't notice it with music from my phone, and haven't really listened to music on the radio or disk.

I received my replacement amp and installed it. I am still getting the same loudness as the stock system. However, I do like how much cleaner the music is with the 500Q. If you are looking for a system that will shake your review mirror by turning the volume dial half way, this system is not for you. If you are looking for a clean rich sounding system then I would recommend this setup for your tacoma. I agree with Paulk, I keep my volume between 30-40 while driving on the freeway which drowns out the road noise with my stock wheels. I will be getting some wheels with A/T tires soon so I will probably increase the volume setting. The install was straightforward. As for the driver seat that Kbuds was mentioning, I didn't have any problems moving the seat all the way back. I did however, fed the cables behind the support beam instead of in front as the video was illustrating. This gave me a little more slack for my subwoofer connection which I believe seemed a little short before the adjustment. All in all I'm satisfied with my audio setup. Not having to splice wires and risk voiding my warranty with an aftermarket setup was a huge concern for me. I would also like to point out the excellent customer service Daniel was able to provide for me. That alone, is worth every penny.

I'm glad you got your issue resolved. I haven't heard from Daniel since the 19th. Mine does sound pretty nice when I get into the 40s volume, but under that it's still "muddy". Maybe I just got used to my 2011 Highlander JBL system and was expecting more. It could just be the Tacoma acoustics.

I to was expecting more in regards to volume especially when an amp is involved but this setup is more about getting tight acoustics out of the head unit than it is about shaking the mirrors. I had a cheap Jensen with 6 JL speakers and a kicker amp that pushed everything including a 10" square sub in my 04 350z for under $900. Maybe that's the reason I had higher expectations. That system was a beast and shook my hatchback compared to my OEM+ Audio but I had to always tweak it depending on what kind of music I was listening to. This 500Q is pretty much plug and play with no major adjustments. The alternative would be to spend double the amount on an aftermarket head unit, speakers, wiring and adapters in order to utilize the same functions I current have with this head unit and risk voiding the warranty should something electrical fail down the road that has nothing to do with the audio. I just don't want to deal with that headache. Besides, I'm too old to be cruising around sharing my playlist with bystanders

Hey DaMaDo, I don't listen to radio much nor do I own any CDs. All of my music is streamed through my Android device on Bluetooth using Google play. If you are using Google play make sure you turn off the EQ from the Google play settings. It sounds a whole lot better. My music used to sound muddy before I realized the EQ was turned on.

I put the harness behind the support beam too, but still had the length issue. It was mainly due the ground cable being too short, and this may bolt down in a different spot on a 2nd gen vs. a 3rd gen. I could have added some length to it - shouldn't have to, but could have - but the wires coming out of the connector would have still been under too much tension with the seat all the way back. I had no choice that to cut the carpet, primarily due to the subwoofer harness length, and that makes me sad. I hope they add a few inches and improve their instructions for 2nd gens, but everything seems to be focused on the 3rd gens.

As for sound quality, I'm fine with it. It's not perfect, but that would be tough to achieve in an small pickup with limited sound insulation. It's also not super loud, but I'm an adult and it's enough for me. I am still frustrated with the reverb/distortion that I'm getting with talk radio, but haven't reached out to OEM+ directly yet. I have been moving the tone adjustments all over the place trying to get it to stop, but no luck yet. I'm a little tired of dealing with this project and have kind of moved on to other things.

    Our sincere apologies

@DaMaDo, It is our hope that you have been assisted and/or are in contact with our team. Not receiving a response for over 7 days is unacceptable. Please allow us to determine the status of your request and provide you a direct update. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

Thanks for this question! We encountered a handful of instances where the connector of our Amplifier was backwards and thus facing the wrong way. In the instances where this was brought to our attention during the installation (Tech Support (855) 636-6346 x2) we have been able to provide instructions on how to flip the connector without ANY additional steps. Our heartfelt apologies to @PaulK that this wasn't caught prior to your Reference 500Q being shipped.

Thank you for making this known to us!! We be reaching out to you directly (by phone) to see if we can determine a recording that this is occurring, so we can try to replicate on our end (within a Tacoma) and thus send out a EQ correction. You're an O+ Owner and it is our mission to provide you relentless support and exceed your expectations with the end result (we strive for "perfect").

PaulK - I've had the same experience with talk radio, right down to the location of the sound and it being most noticeable with female voices. I reached out to OEMAudio+ and they are looking into the issue with a sound file that generates the distortion (I think of it as buzzing in the dead space right after words stop, usually with NPR. I can predict it for particular reporters now. Hopefully they get a fix on this quickly as it is driving me nuts.

Otherwise, my experience has been great - installation wasn't "easy" but it wasn't difficult either. About what I expected with a few hassles of cord routing because I didn't know what I was doing. All in all, with the install video, I'd say it was plug and play with a bit of tight moments as you rip the entire interior of your new truck apart!
Quality of the system for music is stunning. I sit in the truck and listen to music sometimes because the spatial expansion is so dramatic and the tuning so good. It is not, thankfully, an over bassed thump machine. It actually replicates quality music (not MP3, or compressed files, which will be exposed on this kind of system for the muddy crap they are) beautifully

Now if they can solve the talk radio issue I'll be happy...

Sounds exactly like my problem. They called about the issue a couple of days ago, but I haven't been able to get back to them yet. Please share whatever you find out, and I'll do the same.

Same here. I notice it on the radio only especially when females are talking not so much during music play or commercials. It sounds like a lisp after each sentence. I don't hear it when it's a male voice.

Exactly like my situation. I only notice it on the radio, and most prominent with medium pitched voices - adult females. OEM+ called me a few days ago to offer help, but I haven't had a chance to call them back during businesses hours due to work travel and a late night focused project.

Daniel from @oemaudioplus was extremely helpful in getting me a good amp and now my system is awesome! Very good customer service. He even said they would send me another amp tuned for an aftermarket HU once I settle on one, so no fear on future upgrades.

Daniel rocks man! Although the system isn't perfect I'm a satisfied customer because of the level of service he has provided to me and the members on this forum. I definitely would recommend others to consider his products.

I am on the fence about purchasing this system. My FJ Cruiser has an expensive custom system which is great. I like that the install is straight forward with the the O+ and that it isn't out of the ability of most people. The problem that I see is that if the amp in the O+ breaks, and is out of warranty or O+ ceases to exist you are kind of stuck. With a custom system you can replace the amp without much trouble. Custom systems are expensive and pricey to install. I don't think that I would be able to put together a good custom system for the same price point as the O+.

Right now Best Buy is selling a service subscription that includes basic audio component installs for $50 for the first month and $20 after. They should be able to install the O+ without too much trouble. I wouldn't use them for audio installs that required custom work though.

You totally can. For $1500 you can put together something that will outperform the O+ by leaps and bounds. I'm quite sure I could put something together for $750 or so that will outperform it - DSP & all. It would require more work, but there's lots of coin to be saved if that's an issue. I've heard this system in a new access cab. It was pretty humble considering the coin and install time spent. I do like the way they integrate the sub into the install, but they're pretty weak on output.

Starting to notice an alternator whine when the system is "off". Still haven;t had time to troubleshoot with O+, but that's my fault, not theirs.
