Or can't because there is a stop sign or traffic light every other corner plus the city traffic. The truck wants to get up and go, the city just kills it's performance.

Yeah, honestly I think that's all terrible advice. If anything, I think you should take it easy for the first 10,000. Why risk damaging components before they're worn in?

My AT runs great after 6 months of driving. What the hell is wrong with Reverse!? Everytime I try to back out of garage/ driveway (about 70’ to road) it surges when I let off the gas and move to the brake pedal. It’s almost like its trying to shift into another gear? Last time I checked most vehicles come standard with one reverse gear. Not that big of a deal since I’m used to it now but seems a little uneasy at times.

I guessing that happens because you might not be engaging the parking brake before releasing the brake pedal , when parking.

It’s when I back out and slow down to come to stop to look and see if anyone’s coming down the street. Basically I get in my truck start it, hit the gas pedal to to start going in reverse and I let off the the pedal to coast a little bit before hitting breaks to stop and check for traffic. It’s happens right when I hit the breaks after coasting about 20’. It jerks like it is trying to go into gear or something.

It would be like coasting to a stop sign with your foot off the gas and then when you go to hit the break the rpms rev up and tries to shift. I don’t know, it’s not that big of a deal because I am used to it. Just wandering if anyone else experiences this?

Ah, got you. It does seem a little odd that it surges like that.

Probably something to do with the tune parameters. I’ve experienced the occasional surge here and there when putting it into park. Doesnt bother me. I’ve seen similar behavior out of other brand / model vehicles.

No manufacturer is perfect. All vehicles have their “quirks”.

Yes, I’ve had it do the same thing when backing out of garage after just starting the truck and it’s still cold. Doesn’t seem to do it as badly once the truck has warmed up.

When did Toyota issue this TSB? It was my understanding that is was sometime in 2016, but I could be mistaken...? I bought my ‘17 Tacoma in December of 2016 and just assumed that they would have already updated it before they sold the truck. How would I check to see if it’s been done to my truck?

Thanks! Doesn’t look like it’s been done on my Tacoma. Time for a trip to the dealer.

I was really worried about getting a Tacoma due to all the complaints about the AT as well, but after having it for about a week now I've not had any issues and its smooth as butter. The first day it seemed to hunt a little at low RPMs, at least from what it seemed like coming from an Allison 1000 duramax, but it seems to have "learned" my driving habits and is super smooth with no hunting around and just goes.

Went to the dealership last week and had them perform the transmission reflash for the TSB, so far it seems to shift much better, especially at highway speeds. No longer hunts for the right gear as much, seems to stay in 5th or 6th much more of the time. The update also seems to have fixed the surging issue when shifting from Park to Reverse or Drive while the engine is cold.

Are 2018s excluded from this TSB I assume?

If you don't like how the truck behaves, don't expect to like it in 6 months.

I have driven my 17 like I have some sense basically since day 1. I'm at 5500 miles now and my AT drives smooth and I have no complaints. It has probably smoothed out a little bit since day 1 but for the most part has been fine. I don't really understand driving like a lunatic in a 279 hp truck lol. It probably doesn't do anything for the truck and makes you look like an ass hat flooring it everywhere you go.
