Help! Antenna broke off, I couldn't get the threads out with an ez out

    After removing liner then remove 10 mm bolt on antenna housing. Inside of fender.IMG_20180316_165306.jpg

    i just did this a few weeks ago, when i went to pre drill the broken antenna it almost threaded itself all the way down out the bottom. ended up using the ez out from autozone and it came right now. replaced with a stubby antenna. good luck!

    Next remove pillar trim inside cab. To do this use a pick or very small flat head if you have one to remove covers. Try to be gentle not to gouge plastic. Remove 2 10mm bolt and pull off trim start at top.MVIMG_20180316_165710.jpg

    Antenna connects here. There are a few clips on pillar attached to harness. You can break these to remove them they will be on new harness. Then pull back through firewall under fender area. If you have mechincs wire or equivalent available tie to this end use about 3 feet. Once you pull harness to opening in firewall cut wire. Attach new antenna harness to wire and pull back through.MVIMG_20180316_165739.jpg

    Wow, thanks so much for posting that. I am going to replace it in a week or so when it warms up around here.

    So... will i definielty need to replace this part? I only have a 2014, so I am hoping to reuse this and the nut.

    Yes you will need to replace that. Unfortunately the nut and the antenna housing for whatever reason corrode together. So the nut just strips out. It happens fast the one in my pictures from work was a 2015. That is in Montana and we don't have alot of corrssion here. We don't get alot of moisture and they don't salt the roads. So I would bet yours would be corroded together as well.

    Local parts store would probably have antenna sockets or even harbor frieght if you have one close. But if it's corrode like most you will just have to cut it off.

    My antenna broke also once wheeling in some thick bushes.

    -So what I did was drill out the remaining end of the antenna that was still stuck. Make sure it's a slightly smaller size bit.

    -Then tap it out with the same thread pitch as the antenna.

    -Went to the junk yard and got another antenna for free. Lucky me that day, the guy said go ahead take it "free" :D.

    The one in the cl posting is the tool to remove the antenna is it wasn't sheared off. I have that. I might pick up the Amazon tool. I will probably try to tighten it first with needle nose pliers. I looked around at Harbor Freight to see if I could find anything that might work but with no luck. This has already cost me quite a bit... I really should have stopped and gotten that guy's info.

    I messed around for a few min today and drilled out the old antenna nut... and found that they are corroded together. I have to order the ornament thing. I should have picked it up when I was at the dealer... oh well. I am just proud of myself for stopping when I did. Any more drilling and I would have needed to finish the project. Not a good idea to start one at 6 pm on a sunday! My radio reception has been slowly getting worse, I wonder if this was the problem.

    I also realized that I posted this in the wrong spot... I thought I posted this in the 2nd gen forum. Sorry to everyone shopping for parts and taking the time to respond to my thread.

    does anyone know the trick to remove these fender well clips without breakign them? I did not remove this one... this pic is from this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-replace-oem-antenna-in-fender.261341/

    Once I can get these off, I can finish this stupid project. I had everything else off, but after breaking one of these clips, I decided to wait until i know how to remove them or just get replacements. I have a bunch of trim panel tools to remove stuff like this, but none of them worked.

    done... what a pita. it wasn't hard, and took less than an hour once i had everything i needed.

    Here are my takeaways:
    • The writeups everyone linked were awesome! Thanks, it definitely saved me some time.
    • Get the extra body fasteners for the inner fender, mud flaps and the fender flare. I broke a few fender flare tabs but didn't have any extra on hand. we will see if it rattles and moves around on the highway
    • I had a LOT of mud, sand and pine needles in my inner fender. It was probably a good thing that i cleaned it out.
    • It is crazy how corroded my antenna mast was. The truck is less than 4 years old. I should not have needed to replace a part that soon that is that exposed to the elements

    BAJA stock for a very short time
    I have a stock antenna if you want it. After you fix what you need to fix. I bought a short one off Amazon seems to work fine.

    Yah... I have looked... and everything looks fine, but i'm not really sure how to differentiate "harmless" surface rust from the start of a problem. I really want this truck to last a long time, it is perfect for what i need. But... to be honest, with my 6 speed and slightly larger tires, my mileage is around 14 mpg. The ecoboost f 150's are looking better and better everyday but it doesn't really matter because I am years away from thinking about a different truck.

    I have to do the same, carwash ate mine.

    Drilled in a stubby but reception is crappy.

    Looking for a mast that is a little shorter than stock so it doesnt hit the bottom of my garage door.
