    Hi All,

This is my first post. I am partially disabled and have a lot of back problems. I just tried to install a Ruff Country 54910 4" lift and can't get it right. I'm hurting so bad after three hours and I can't figure it out.

I am stuck at installing the new shock into the old spring. While trying to torque the top nut onto the shock to 65lbs, it just keeps going on further and further. I had threaded it on more than an inch and it was nowhere near even 20lbs. Also, is there an easy way to keep the shock from spinning while I am trying to tighten the nut? I tried vise grips but they don't work very well, and I am worried about scratching the shaft.

There are two rubber spacers the size of the stud that I have no idea where they are supposed to go, if anywhere, as well as two washers.

    Thank you, T. Scott

Not sure about the nut going further down....but put a wrench on the top of the shaft to keep it from turning. That's what that flat area is for

Also if you are talking about the top shock shaft bolt there's no way that should be 65lbs. It should bottom out on the shaft and just be tight. I could be wrong but 65lbs would break it :notsure:...bit as stated above, the flat spot on top is for holding it while tightening.

Thank you both. I did notice the flat spot but i didnt use it because i thought it was supposed to be torqued. I must have it confused with another nut that is supposed to be torqued to that. The instructions seem very vague and don't have the pictures numbered or anything.

    Thank you, T. Scott

:annoyed: definately keep vise-grips away from the shaft. If the shaft gets scored and is in the travel range of the shock body, it will destroy the seal and cause the shock to leak oil. You'll want to tighten that top nut ,using a box end wrench to hold the shaft in place, to where it just snugs the rubber donuts, and not over tightened to the point of distorting or bulging the rubber.

One washer and donut go on each side of the top hat. In this illustration they're calling the washer a retainer and what I'm calling the rubber donut is the cushion.

Thank you! It's true, a picture is worth a thousand words. That clears it up a lot.
