So I posted this question in an older thread, but I was wondering if I were to find the complete rear end (diff, axles, brakes, etc.) from a 2nd gen would I be able to install that into my first gen? I know the 2nd gen 5 lugs have a stock gearing option in the 8.4” 5 lug rear diff that is what I’m looking for (3.73) and this is why I’m asking.

Well my 5 lug has the 7.5” rear. The gears from the second gen I don’t believe will fit my stock carrier. So I was going to try and find a junk yard complete rear I could install from a second gen

Ah okey, i was lucky and my truck came with an 8.4. But any 8.4 should fit under your truck in thoery. I dont see why toyota would alter the distance for the mounts on the axel for the same truck but different axel. If i was you I would measure your axel from the center pin to center pin the got find a 2nd 5lug with a 8.4 at a junk yard and measure that and its the same then take it.

Hmm i guess the ratio on a 7.4 is way different then the 8.4 from the factory. I have 30x9.5 and i need 3.55, and thanks

Also idk if the end of the drive shaft on a 7.4 is any different then the end on a 8.4 and or if the 8.4 sits farther back then the 7.4. you might want to look into that. If so you would need to get the second drive shaft custom made.

Yeah that’s what I’ve seen on a few different threads in reference to second gen guys and trd models being used for their swaps. But I’m going to try and find a 2nd gen 5lugger and measure from pin to pin and see what it looks like.

I mean you could always just cut of the spring perches and weld them where needed. But if it does fit you will want to mock it up first and see if the drive shaft will fit if not your gunna need to custom order one
