My Bakflip F1 arrived today, but I don't think it's the right model.

First, I thought this didn't use the factory rails, instead it relocated them an inch lower. The kit that arrived used my rails.

Second, the back fitting was so far toward the end of the rails that I couldn't replace the end cap like the instructions said.

Third, the damn thing just doesn't fit.

See how it hangs over the front and back of the bed?

Checkout the gap between the top of the tailgate and bottom of the cover.

I called to let them know what's up. The lady I talked to seemed to think I was nuts and just didn't install it correctly. I sent in these pics so their support team can see what's going on. I can't believe this is the right cover. Hopefully their support will agree and send me a new one ASAP.

Does it have a part number? What is it? Doesn’t seem long enough to be 6’ version, maybe it’s a 3rd Gen or for a Frontier or Colorado? Has to be a mid-size variant, otherwise the width would be off too

I just installed a bakflip but the roll up instead of the tri-fold. That deff does not fit right. It also is sitting higher than I have ever seen a bakflip, I had the tri-fold on my last truck (2015 so not some crazy old version) and it sits flush with the bed, my new taco one fits flush with the bed. They usually do not sit on top like that. Also, you will see a tiny overhang on the front usually to keep water out, but not like you have and the back is insane. For my tacoma it also dropped the factory bedrails.

I wonder if you got the colorado or canyon cover? I'm not an employee at bakflip, but imo that is not the right one.

It actually had Tacoma instructions in the box. I'll check to see if there's a part number on the cover itself.

You're right. I expected it to sit flush with the bed. The pictures on the website were of a Ram truck, so I don't know if it's different for the Tacoma or not.

Yeah, keeping the rails was a big selling point for me.

I hope that's what's going on. The interesting thing is it still locks in nicely. The bolts at the front fit perfectly too.

Maybe even the wrong generation then? Did the bed size change a little from 2nd to 3rd gen? So you have taco instructions, and it's for a taco, but just not YOUR taco.

Yeah. There's just so many things that are weird about this. I still don't get why the Tacoma instructions have me using the factory rails.

Here's an install video from Bakflip (for a 3rd gen) that shows him removing the rails and relocating them. I hope this feature isn't only available for 3rd gens.

I have a 3rd gen, and that's what I did. Hopefully they can figure it out and get you the right stuff, do you have a 2nd gen?

So the company I bought the cover from thinks Bak put the wrong parts in the box. The model number on the box is right for my truck and there's a sticker on the cover with same number. I wonder if this is isolated or do they have a whole lot that's screwed up.

They're supposed to ship out a new one on Monday. Fingers crossed it's here in time for my trip next week.

Well, I expected to hear that they shipped a new cover on Monday, but I heard nothing. I emailed customer service a few times yesterday and got no response. :frusty:

I finally have this about 98% taken care of. I received a new F1 today. I wanted this cover by last week so I could use the truck on a trip. Since they couldn't get the replacement to me in time, they offered a partial refund. I asked them if they'd throw in a Pop & Lock instead. I should receive a Power Pop & Lock with Bolt technology later today.

    I still have 2 issues:
    1. It doesn't have the "dual action seal" that lets you open and close the tailgate without opening the cover. The first one they sent has it, so I may see if I can swap them out.
    2. The last latch on the right side is a bit stubborn. Looks like it needs to move in about 1/8 to 1/4 inch. I'll dig in over the weekend to see if can be adjusted.

They didn't ask for the other cover back. I need to figure out what truck it fits and make somebody a deal.

Here are shots of the new cover.

Looks good! hopefully they get the seal going so you can open and close the tailgate without issue.

@pir897: Just to confirm, when the correct cover arrived, it required you to remove/drop the factory rails on your 2nd gen? I am looking at a used BakFlip F1 on CL and the owner seems clueless, I don't think he ever mounted it.

Nope . The rail drop is for 3rd gens only. Unfortunately BakFlip uses the factory rails for mounting so they're useless. The instructions had me remove the rail at the back of the bed, but I'm going to look to see if I can reinstall it and get some use out of it.

It looks like the Pop and Lock you got is for 2005-2014. Is that going to work on the 2015? Just wondering!

Dang, I didn’t realize the rails become useless. That is a deal breaker, I use them with the moveable cleats all the time.

Yep. I just checked the back rail and the drain tubes are in the way, so I can't put that back on either. I need to find something that'll let me drop that back rail down and inch or so.

OV Tune, Bakflip F1, Redline hood struts, faux pro headlights and tails, Meso: bucket, map and dome lights, fuse cover.
I installed the F1 on my 3rd gen today. Everything went smooth except for one screw head snapped off. Lines up right, can open and close the gate independently. Will test rain this weekend as the tropical depression moves through.
