    Hey All,

I know I brought this up in the hood swappin' n trading thread, but I didn't want to clutter it, so i started this one. Since the want for a scooped hood seems to be widespread, I figured not why try and do a group buy.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-hood-swappin-n-tradin-thread.413378/page-98

I copied my post from the above thread and put them up in here.

For those of you in CA, I’m reaching out to a couple parts dealers to see what it would cost to order the hood components for a potential group buy. If it’s just parts, I think it would be plausible to have the components just dropped shipped to individual customers, so location wouldn’t be an issue. I have ordered large orders of OEM parts before from an out of state dealer (gave me the cheapest cost by far) and he had everything shipped out of manufacture plant in Michigan, some to different addresses, so wouldn’t be my first time. Nothing is happening for certain but I don’t mind kicking the idea around and getting some quotes. Will post more when I find out. If anyone has the OEM parts numbers on hand, please post them up :)

So update for everyone, already contacted 3 different dealers for parts, 25% off price seems to be standard, I did find one that would go cheaper (GenuineToyotaParts.com) however they were not very polite over the phone. As a matter of fact, they refused to let me speak with a parts specialist over the phone saying only communicate via email as they are strictly "ecommerce" and won't let me speak to anyone verbally or even in person if I wanted to do in an store pick (they are local) they refused that and said shipping only. So the struggle with doing local is taxes for CA guys, so Ive reached out of state dealers and am waiting to hear back from a couple. I'm trying to get us at least 30% off MSRP listed pricing, and a good deal on the paint (for us CA guys). One of the painters I spoke to is indeed a collision center, but they contract with one of the largest Toyota Dealers in SoCal and do Toyotas all day, whether it's for collisions or lot damage. I went to the shop and saw their work first hand, looked good. Still need to get updated pricing for multiple hoods though and I would need to know more of a estimate on how many colors we are looking at. (I'm cement).

***UPDATE*** So this is the price of the components and the part numbers. [IMG]

I was able to get it down a bit, nothing crazy but some nonetheless. It would be $571.15, which to me seems okay. The hood was the biggest part he took off, we are paying $381 instead of $414, the smaller items don't have the profit margins as big understandably. Where we also save a lot of money is shipping by buying in bulk and shipping to a central location. Shipped individually, say if you were not a local SoCal resident and wanted that pricing to your own area, is about $230 (components are big). If we do one big batch, I could get shipping to be about $990 (that was my quote for 10 full sets). Which divided by 10 customers is less than $100 a person for a total of $670.15. Still seems like a great deal so far for me at least.

Will update again soon when I have more information to post. In the mean time, I need you guys who are interested to start posting up saying so and posting colors please!:oldglory:

Through that website, I got the total of 527.33

Interested, but couldn't the OR, sr5 hood be cut to accommodate the scoop or is it a completely different hood? Sorry I have not paid much attention to the specifics as it is not a necessity in my book. (Low on the mod list for me)

Have you contacted RKSport? Really friendly people at their warehouse.

Yes I looked into that first. The hood is about $840 and that is unpainted. So its about $200 more then an OEM hood and to be honest I think the scoop on the OEM hood looks better. Also, the functional aspect of the RK hood requires an open filter or removable airbox to work best according to their site.

Pick up would be at the center where the paint would be done at (more then likely a collision center with a good painter). Somewhere in Socal for sure.

They won’t quote you internet prices. I literally called them, priced a bed mat and they quoted me MSRP and to go order it from the website.

Just like Genuine Toyota Parts told me (similar prices), pretty dumb. That's where the customer service plays a part. I want to be able to talk to someone on the phone. It helps, today the parts guy told me that 17-18 only used the listed bulge protector and 16's have a different part number which is a couple bucks cheaper too. Nice to have someone tell me and guide me through it, regardless of the extra cash. So I went in and added all the contents for 10 hood assemblies at that GrapeVine dealer site and they only offer store pickup for that size of order :/. I tried a couple other dealers with similar pricing and they also said "no body components or sheet metal of any kind" will ship. Anyone know of a dealer with cheaper price that WILL SHIP that's cheaper then $571? I'm not fighting for every cent though.

Well that dealer will ship anywhere. It had the option to ship. I only picked up my bed mat because it’s where I bought my truck and it’s walking distance from my house lol

It did not give me the option to ship with the 10 assemblies in my cart though :/ said in store pick only. Maybe I did it wrong?
