I have a VR8000-s Gen2 winch. The one in the 3rd gen above is a Gen1 winch. Can' but them new anymore. Mine has held up great. At east a dozen legit pulls. Plus a dozen more that weren't that intense. It pulls like a champ. No issues thus far.

Yeah I figured his was a Gen 1. Goos to hear your review. Was trying to find legit reviews online and it just seems like everyone is knocking the VR series since Warn made them more affordable by using outsourced parts on their end. Found VR10s for $769 and also found a Zeon 10s for $1,066..

Cost was definitey a factor when purchasing this winch. I didn't want the smittybilt, and I was debating coughing up the dough for an m8000. But the VR came in at a good mid point. And Warn has the exact same warranty as their top end winches.

The main differences between winches is line speed and duty cycle. I can't see other differences like materials used etc having that big of an impact on a winch. Copper wires and a steel drum. The contactor box I'm kinda on the fence about. It is a sealed unit so hard to say what kind of quality. If I did it over, I would buy an m8000. But I was budget minded when I bought this winch, so at that time, this is what I could afford. And at the end of the day, having a cheap winch is better than not having one at all. @Foihdzas pulled me out with his 9k champion winch. And it worked great haha.

Question: for a 2015 DCSB Sport w/Leer topper and US Off-road Bumper... is a Warn 8000lb winch sufficient?

Loaded question. Is the truck running empty or will you have added weight like a camper or pulling a trailer when offroad. The rule is curb weight x2 or gvw x1.5

    curb weight (4220lbs) x 2 = 8440 lbs
    Gvw rating (5500lbs) x 1.5 = 8250 lbs

So an 8000lbs winch is right there, except if you add the weight of the topper and your bumper. Plus the actual weight of the winch. A 9000lbs winch is more like it. A 10k is huge, but depends on how much you add after that. E.g. sliders bumpers etc

Edit: I run an 8k and I weight 4500lbs. Unloaded. So closer to 5k with all my camping stuff. I'll let you know the day she cant pull me out of the mess ive gotten into

A 8,000lb winch is sufficient but carry a couple snatch blocks just in case.

I run a Warn M8000s on my DCSB with a shell, bolt on sliders with fill plates, skids, and a Relentless bumper.

Tacoma with US Off Road bumper and Warn M8000s winch. Just sayin'. That's an LMTV buried to the axle in mud.

I've got a badass Jeep on 35" mud terrains with sick projector headlights and light bars everywhere. My spare tire is too small. Also I keep 40 gallons of tire shine in my truck at all times. My winch is so syk bro and hasn't even been spooled before. Not to mention I don't even know how to use my hi-lift I have mounted on my roof for maximum accessbility

OK, what do you think about this deal I just got? I just bought a smittybilt x2o 10K synthetic winch on ebay for only $393! Normally they are $590.

So this seller is already selling them at 10% off ->
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/351547907460?ViewItem=&item=351547907460

So, $521. Then....today only (6/29), ebay has a 15% coupon PERFECTDAY....which brings the winch down to $443. But THEN....smittybilt has a $50 rebate on them that is for sales before the end of the month (so really only 2 days left)...so $393! Super pumped to get it!

Edit: I'll be pairing it with a SSO slimline bumper.
