Going up the mountains I-40 west and back down.

    has anyone pulled their rig up I-40 west towards Asheville? I remember the grade is pretty steep but it has been years since I have driven up 40. I'm also a little concerned about coming back down. Any tips other than gearing down to 2nd and 3rd gear? Trailer is at 3500 lbs

    I never had the chance to tow, but watched lots of different rigs making the trip. Obviously they were going much slower than the rest of the traffic, but no one seemed to care. I know I didn't.

    I remember thinking, "I'm glad I'm not hauling the 5'er".

    Just in the truck alone, those tunnels always made me nervious. Not to mention all the scarring on the deviders were pretty common.

    Oddly enough, I always get the best mpg on that stretch of road.

    I'll be travelling it in 15 days.

    I'm sorry I had nothing to add. I just like that section so much, I was compelled to comment.

    I'm actually hoping to make it to Asheville and put up for the night there.

    Made the trip with no issues. The larger trans cooler kept temps below 200 while towing up the steepest grades. Downshifted to 3rd and subtle braking made the trip pretty easy.

    What tranny cooler did you add and did you run it in series with theOEM cooler? Do you recall what size the line fittings are on the stock cooler.? I'm getting ready to purchase and install any additional cooler and I'm trying to anticipate all the kit I'll need.
