I installed this Blue Seas switch yestetday to have a safety cut off for my winch(I never have used one in the past, but I've read it's a good idea in case of winch malfunction). I must be missing something, but this switch doesn't interrupt/cut off power when flipped... Can someone help me out?Screenshot_20180403-090722.jpg

    How did you wire it?

My guess is two positives on input, two negatives on output.

Where does that output wire go?

The wire coming out of the left side top picture goes to winch.
Wire coming out of right side 2nd picture goes to winch

Bet the winch housing is grounding to the bumper/frame.

the diagram shows to wire it from the positive side.... looks like you have it wired through the negative....

Ahh yes I bet your right. So I need to interrupt the positive lead then correct?

@Earfarmer if you have a Volt meter you can check from the Output (negative) to the Battery Positive, check with the switch On and then Off, If you have 12v in both positions the switch is failed.

It doesn't matter provided there isn't another ground source.

Would help if you had wiring diagrams and could show us exactly how you connected it to your winch. Is there more than one ground path on the winch? Did you connect it to the correct wire on the winch? Pics are great but that's some neat spaghetti you got there.

Thanks I'll try that tonight when I get a chance. It was my understanding that one could interrupt the positive or negative and stop current. But if it is grounding out on the frame/metalbumper, and I'm trying to interrupt the ground could be the only other option of why it's not working....other than a faulty switch correct?

If there is a 2nd ground path that could actually fool the results of testing the swtich while connected. To fully test the switch Disconnect the Input and Output and put the Multi-meter in Ohms(resistance/continuity) mode and check from Input to Output, swithing it on and off.

The 2 leads go to the main battery, one to the positive terminal, the other to the blue seas switch.(I used to have it directly hooked to the negative terminal and it worked fine.) Don't know if this picture helps.

Thanks for the help. The winch has to be grounding to the bumper. I tested the switch and it works. So I rewired it through the positive terminal and now it all works as it should.

I just put this same switch in my truck for the winch. I wired it using the positive lead and has worked for me.

Quite possible you got a bad one.

With your Meter check that it works when disconnected

That you have continuity between the to studs when it is on .

Like was said quite possible you have another ground path
